Over dried weed !!

Great article, but I've tried letting the smallest buds dry to point snap off stem, before jarring. My question is why was my bud to dry ? Humidity never rose past like 50, if that, after 24 hrs. i added one fresh leaf to each jar, and 12 hrs. later they were up to 65 rh. then I started burping . I guess my question is, where did i go wrong ? Turned out to be good smoke, but didn't really have that taste, one gets from a proper cure ? Anyhow, I will be harvesting again soon, and just wondering how to approach it. Thanks to everyone who runs this site, and to all members .

lookingtolearn I agree and have had the same experience. I think waiting for the smallest buds to snap off is a little too long. However, re-hydrating with a leaf was a great call, and I haven't found that it affected the quality of the smoke now that the buds really are properly cured (almost 3 months).
I just hung up a plant last night, and I will jar it up before the smallest buds pop off!

If they feel dry to the touch I jar them regardless if small nugs pop off. A little more moisture from the stems will come out if they are a little stringy. I've had them pop off before though and still got a good cure.

My guess would be leaving jars open too long. If they aren't dry to the touch when you burp them you might have to take some out and dry more. But if they are still dry and not sticking together a few minutes of air would suffice.

And only open once per day for first 2weeks... I go by touch and smell. If they don't feel dry after a few minutes or you jar it too moist leave it open for up to 4 hours. If it's still not dry to the touch you may have to take it out of the jar for another 8 hours. Should be dry to the touch when you put it in jars. I put them back in a dry dark place and continue this process for first 2weeks. I don't check humidity often and don't open the jar for atleast 12-16 hours. If it smells like cannabis more and more you're doing it right, if it smells wet or like ammonia you're doing it wrong. You'll get it down after a few grows for sure and won't have to use hygrometers... I haven't had any mold problems using this method. And my buds fluff back up when squeezed not crumble between your fingers.

I have to be super careful about this here in NM. Our RH here hovers around 10-15% on a good day, lower sometimes during the dry hot season. Anyway, I can only hang buds for a day or two, and have to jar them, or they get SUPER crispy.
