HELP! Outdoor Defoliation

My 2 months old Blueberry is pretty big until now. It's full of fan leaves that doesn't let the sunlight to reach the new branches.

Why everyone says that it's better to let the plants with the fan leaves outdoors? I mean, if I take off the fan leaves, the other branches will get more sunlight than before.

I defoliated before my other plants growing outdoors, and didn't notice any problem at all.. just wondered what would happen if I didn't defoliate her

I think if u do a light defo it would be good for your plant in not sure but I would think keeping the extra leafs would be encase bugs or something eat your plant

I live in Paraguay, already in Summer. I don't know if i have lo let her grow just like that or take off the fan leaves.
NebulaHaze I need some opinion here, please !!

Hi Lpro the theroy is that outside you have the wind to move your fan leafs around, that and the movement of the sun the plant will get sun all day. That being said I trim my outdoor grows 3 or 4 times a year I take the biggest fan leafs any with stems longer than 1 1/2 inches

I believe the main gwe site has a good write up on defoling both indoor and outdoor plants :) also pros and cons.i dont have a link sorry... its there though :)

jarhead summed the whole article up though ;)

This is my plant, I want to defoliate her sooo bad lol

Morning 27, Your plant is fine, I sure wouldn't take any of her leaves off now, she just needs to keep growing more leaves. Good Luck with her 27.
She has got to have leaves to grow.

I really need to harvest quickly because I need to breed Grand Daddy Purples before the sunlight gets lower until winter, topping implicates more time

Lpro why dont you go to growershouse.com and by some cheep t5s to veg with. then you can start your grand daddy purple, with out waiting for your first plant to finish bloom. and defoliating will not speed up bloom . I wouldn't put that plant into bloom right now its not anywhere big enough in my opinion , if you give her a month more in veg then your yield will double your choice Lpro thats why I love to grow these girls you can try new stuff good luck

What about a light defoliation now? They reached the 3rd week of the flowering stage

Morning 27, coming along nicely, you could take a few of those big leaves on your short plant, the tall one is fine.
