OG Group

alltatup Neil would have love the irony there :) Neil Peart the Drummer/Percussionist & Lyricist for the band RUSH died far too early of brain cancer. He is affectionately known as The Professor by his admirers for his prowess with stick and pen.

I'm old by age, I never signed up but because I'm awake until dawn I try to at least acknowledge someone's request for help and offer what I can, in hopes that an OG will see it BUT I see several folks post in the Sticky, often their post doesn't get seen in a timely manner. I don't tag anyone, often RWise will see it and follow up. I'm in my first auto experience, sometimes I wish more OGs would give me their two cents. I'm about done with 2 of the 3 plants now, in more ways than one. Photo seeds are in starters, one popped overnight. Honestly? Sometimes I think newbies could use more input than they get, just my opinion. I see incorrect info suggested but I'm not going to question an OG's advice, yet. Thanks for all you do BU2B !

Interesting post. I don’t use vape liquids/carts but I have been know to use concentrates (resin/rosin/wax) on rare occasion. Is phytol added to things other than vape liquids? I’ll watch for it in the future.

Not trying to be a downer, but why does age matter? Is this a group for experienced growers or old growers? Are you implying that a 60 year old 3 days into their first grow ever is better at giving advice than a 27 year old with 3 and a half years experience? It just seems odd to have the over 50 or 5 years exp. Not trying to hate just confused as to the purpose of this group.

OK sir Tersky, I have a couple reasons for ya:
1. Attitude ... Hmmm
2. Time - most of us are retired and do have the time to help if we desire
3. Patience - Usually this aspect takes time to develop

I don't look at this as any exclusive club or elite society. It's just a group of people who have proven they can and will help when possible. Some can't be teachers just as some can't be taught.

TOKABIGONE sorry my post offended you. That was not my intention. I just thought it was illogical. Either have a group for networking purposes for the over 50 crowd (which i think would be a fabulous idea) or have an experience growers group. I know plenty of people over 50 with poor attitudes and no patience so i dont understand that argument. The retired thing fits, but id rather wait a day or two to get advice from someone who has had several successful harvests than someone who barely started growing. Maybe im just weird like that.

Tersky I seriously doubt that your post offended anyone - we do have some ex military and tossing a Sir in for many is sign of respect, not curtness.
1st I think you may have misread the post that you made a comment on because it states that anyone "50 or over OR those with 5 or more consecutive years of growing experience. IF you qualify on EITHER account..." This is not a group for AGING growers... hopefully we're all aging, but IT IS a Group for OLD GROWERS who would like to help others. If you've been growing 5 years and are 20 you could still be an OLD GROWER and member of the OG Group.

I was 27 once with 3 and a half years experience....
NO QUESTION now that I'm on the other shore and have swam across - In my personal opinion (and yes it's just my opinion) but I would have to say the 60 year old and 27 year old in your example are pretty much on even ground. Why? 33.3 years more life experience... gardens, house plants, yards, past grows, research, time, patience the list goes on. I'm not saying they have the same experience with growing cannabis but because of life and how it adds up exponentially I would venture to say that statistically (grab em off the street) you will see MANY more mistakes, errors, and request for help from those 30 and below as opposed to those 50 and up. There's no magic age number, but at some point in life you quit basing your experience on your personal experience alone and find the written word and experience of others to be an invaluable tool or you find that you've just become an opinionated old fart regardless of your age.

If you Qualify (on any account Age OR Grow Experience) and are willing to abide by our 5 easy guidelines we would be more than happy to have you. People will always need help... We're just here to do what we can. Where, why, and WHO you ask for help is your choice. Happy Pharming!

Post Script - This post is PERFECT example of WHY age is not THE factor but IS taken into account. I will have probably edited and re-read and re-edited this post 15 times before the final one will end up here; in an earlier day I can guarantee that would NOT have been the case. If it takes hours to answer a casual post, Off the top of your head, how much time and attention to detail do you think is spent in giving a correct, well worded and socially acceptable answer to growing cannabis by members of the OG Group?

;) and now, my coffee's cold

BU2B Fair enough. However i do disagree with some of your rational. And i didnt even see the sir, I though the was offended because of his statement "Attitude...hmm" which i took to imply that he did not like my attitude. I disagree that life experience trumps growing experience. I understand and agree to an extent that gardening experience will help with cannabis growing, but the requirements for cannabis and most other garden plants is fairly different. Light intensity, light periods humidity/bud rot... all these thing i never had to worry about for any of the veggies i grew where as cannabis i have to take more of that into consideration. I would absolutely rather get help from someone who has a few grows under their belt than someone on their first grow but has more "life experience". But, that is my opinion.

Tersky no offence taken nor intended my good man. It seems I've seen way too much bickering and rudeness on here lately; it leaves me a little bemused and discusted as to why some people even come on here. And NO I'm not referring to you. I've read many of your posts and find you to be logical and direct in your approach which is great ! Toka

Well age isn’t everything 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’m30 and I’m making high grade weed already 😁.

Tersky
Here is a break down that may help in understanding why life experience helps. Being more than a decade over age limit I would qualify. I studied 3 years of Mechanical Engineering, 5 years of Architecture, a year and a half each of Electromechanics & Robotics and 6 months of HVAC. Then found Machining and loved it to point I made it my career and achieved Journey Man status. This education/experience and the way my mind works would give me the ability to help with building setups and environmental aspects of growing.
Now as for actually growing I only started my first seeds February 2019 and am currently on my eighth grow. I only grow feminized photos (other than 1st grow) and in hydro so my knowledge is limited when it comes to actually growing cannabis. So I either tend to only comment or advise on things I have experienced when it comes to actually growing our beloved plants.
Those two paragraphs should show how life experience could qualify one and be helpful while having a lack of growing experience. As for growing experience of 5 years to qualify this being my 3rd year of growing I'm not sure at 5 years I'd be comfortable with the knowledge I'd gained to consider myself an OG when it comes to the cultivation aspects of growing.
As for being a member of this group I have no interest at this time. I may be retired but I'm still working 7 days a week on one project or another and don't want to feel obligated to help someone if I'm not in the mood, and yes I know I'm an ass. I have limited patience with stupidity from adults and often times I'll check to see if I can find an answer for a members problem and just post a link to a GWE page.

Ha Ha BU2B one time (more than that) I looked up to find it was 1am when I had started after my bedtime and had only written 10 lines but edited them more than that because I try to get every word precise. That's the curse and the beauty of English. You can say the same thing 10 different ways and not use the same word twice. If you have a good command of English you can confuse and discombobulate just about anyone in any conversation.

CaptainWiese91 you, my friend- are the exception to the rule. And... you're welcome. We're more than happy to have helped paved the road that leads to your success! It's all about the plant - There's just something about 'Mary' :)

I didn't mean WE specifically helped you, but, it has been a LONG TIME COMING and many arrests and lives ruined under the bridge, A lot of OLD GROWERS giving all they've got, NORML Pamphlets passed out, long hours, hard work and perseverance to get US where WE are today and, that includes YOU! :) Unless you are the only person born with innate cannabis knowledge in tact, or are able learn by osmosis, I'd bet you learned growing from SOMEONE or a bunch of someone's like the rest of us had to do.

Lol 🤣. It was not meant as you guys helped me at all.

I was rocking the growing before I entered this site. Been here for over a year now. Only joined the site because I wanted to help people get started.. but now it’s just for the community and the awesome pictures people are showing.

My intention was like tersky - age doesn’t matter. I think I helped more people who were older than me, than younger than me 😆

But I like the purpose of the group - no hate here 👍🏻

I think the purpose of the group is stated in the OP of the thread. I agree that if you have experience and can help there's no reason you shouldn't and certainly the opportunity is there whenever questions are posted regardless of whether you belong to the OG group or any other designated group recognized, or not, by the forum. I also agree that age is irrelevant and some people learn things faster than others. Either way if I feel someone is a good resource I'll ask them for help until they tell me to cease and desist...haha...it's all good...
