odor control

I'm on a budget right now, and I'm wondering without a carbon filter, I will be getting a air filter well 2 air filters one I will buy, and one I already have and they both do eliminate odors, but is there a DIY one that works well? I heard about a Ona gel bucket one but I havnt seen tutorials on it. Any thoughts?
