Can you reuse the soil from the last gro in my 5 gal pots for the new girls with a buffer zone of fresh soil?

Technically it's possible, but it's something you don't want to do. Your plants use up nutrients in the soil, so you'd have to amend your soil to replace those nutrients which ends up being a lot harder than getting new soil. I hope that helps!

I always use fresh soil and dump my old soil in the garden.

Even with my Coco Coir its hard to get all the roots out. and after a while it loses its ability to hold onto oxygen. I use new each grow and compost the old.
