For a perpetual harvest I would suggest autos, however there are to many for me to be specific, depends on your needs (pain relief, stress, whatever, just get high THC, or CDB). Some autos take as little as 56 days from sprout to finish, others can take 120+ days to finish (and make larger harvests). Choose your auto, plant for the first harvest, in 30 days plant your second harvest, plant again every 30 days. I would also say chose strains that have the same or near the same finish time, or plant a pair of 120 day strains and know they will not be done when the short finish strain/s are. And my biggest mistake was coffee grounds, coffee has caffeine and that is an herbicide, it did not kill them, but it made the 65 day plants take 120 days (ouch makes the cost go up!). With autos you can skip the timer and run them 24/0, or get a timer and run then 18/6 to save a tad on electric.
One thing with autos is they do not clone well, photoperiod plants can certainly be manipulated in ways an auto cannot. I make my own soil that can do the entire grow with nothing but water if I dont have the funds for nutes, or if we are locked in at home (this year). One can veg them little (3 weeks or less) and into flower to help keep them short under lights. Tie em down break em over, top em, LST and training methods, lots of options. (My brother ties weights to them to make them spread out) A timer would be a must have.
Way to much to to put into one post, soil vs hydro, organic soil is less maintenance (can be as easy as watering it and no flushing required), hydro is constant with PH fluctuations etc. etc. Choose your grow medium, I have not used hydro, I understand you get larger yields..
Lights are constantly evolving and what is state of the art today is outdated tomorrow. Get all you can (the best) for the money you have to spend. I started with CFLs and now use LED, many like the high pressure lights better, for me they are to much heat. (many threads on lighting). Want to spend a ton of money, check out Black Dogs.
Heat/AC air circulation (in out and about), carbon filters (for odder control), tent/s, nutes,
The more you can spend on quality equipment the better the grow should be. (once you learn how to use it all) And dont forget to put in the budget funds for bug , mildew, mold control, these things are costly, some are natural and said to be safe to harvest. (did I say they can be costly?)
