New Grow, New Techniques.

Well I asked the questions and listened to the answers. I am starting my next grow using coco for the first time. Perhaps this will help my yields somewhat. Depending upon how heavy wet coco is compared to soil, I may be able to move from three to five gallon pots on subsequent grows. We'll see, baby steps. I don't like to change too many growing conditions at one time. Doing so muddies up determining what does and does not work. This grow will be autos. Yes, I know that auto's often result in smaller yields, but cool weather is upon us and I grow in my garage. 3 Deadhead OG and 3 Scarlett Runtz Courtesy of Going2fast.

Unless someone says otherwise, I intend to add worm castings to my mix. Yes/No?​

I add it to my mix not heavy but if you were using 3gal for 4 plants and in that mixed amount of coco i'd put just 3 cups of worm casting in the mix and i'd put perilite in there too. I get leary about compaction.

Congrats on moving to coco with 30% perlite I hope. Imo you should start with straight GH trio with calmag and pH adjust as needed. That should give you a good baseline for further comparison. I tried worm castings once. All it got me was fungus gnats. I use 3 gallon fabric pots because that is what works for me, tent size, water hauling, humidity management, Weight wise the coco/perlite is very light with the majority of the wight coming fro the water held in the coco. A good warning that they are getting to dry is when the weight goes way down.

Yeah, I'm following the mix formula on GWE. which includes a lot of perlite. My only potential variance is the worm castings. I have used the GH Trio for many grows along with Cal/Mag and Silica in hot weather. I have read that the PH for Coco is much lower than for soil. I need to go back and check that out. Can anyone enlighten me?

I've got a Scarlett Runtz, and Scarlett Sunset auto both from Going2fast growing right now. I use a 50/50 mix of perlite with no additional ingredients The CX Horticulture nutrients take care of that for me.

The Runtz was my favorite but all of them did really well outdoors when the temps heated up.

I've added perlite to the coco for this grow but only cause I'm growing autos and figured they needed it for a better start.

In my last couple of coco grows growing photos just 100% coco, no perlite. No issue with compaction but not using coco dust, good size coco chips.

I am getting ready to do a coco grow alongside my current grow. I decided not to add worm castings because I want to try and wash the coco perlite mix and reuse it. I figure I could always try making a tea with casings rather than putting it in the mix.
