New Adventure: Coco Coir

My next grow will probably start in about a month, maybe a bit more. I'd l;ike to try my hand at Coco (in a 7gal cloth container). I think I know the coco basics...Water/Feed every other day (?) Should I dampen the coco first and THEN put it in the container or should it go into the container dry at first, then dampen it? I thought I'd find a Coco tutorial some where here but I can't seem to find it. Or maybe theres one on YouTube I don't know about.

demcc3 I buy canna coco blocks because I like to add twice as much cal/mag to the water as I mix it up .coco depletes cal/mag so you want to add more ,I watered every three or four days water to run off then wait until its dried out a little I use a water meter ,I also do a flush at the end of veg and during bloom to wash out the built up nutrients , when you are mixing nutrients start with silica and let it sit for minimum of an hour ,then cal/mag then pk boasters (if you use them) then grow or bloom then I use hydrogaurd,yucca

So what i have found with coco is that you have to charge (also called buffering) the coo before planting. This means watering with calmag solution. Check out this article for more info https://growguru.co.za/blogs/hydroponic/buffering-coco-coir. To fix this you add calcium and magnesium before planting. I would mix a ph'd calmag solution, water to 20% runoff then let it dry a day or two, just so its not soaking but still moist. Then i would plant it, wait until it gets kinda dry then water with weak nutes. I have found that feeding every watering works best as long as you have 20% runoff. What i do is wait until the pots are pretty much dry then feed to 20% runoff and i dont have a problem with ph. I test the amount of water by lifting the pots to see if they are light. When i tried to alternate water and feed and only gave a some water/food at a time i ran into ph issue. waiting until pots are light and watering to 20% runoff have worked for me. You might be able to do it differently but just wanted to give my 2 cents!

Few pics of me buffering my Coco. First I use plain water and then a 12hr soak in calmag at 7.5ml per gal. Using a tub with a draining rack helps alot.

My 2cents is to fertigate every watering and to use a 3or 5 gallon pot. Because you want to fertigate 2-5 times a day 7gal seems big . Happy growing
