Hi, I had a much higher percentage of sprouting by soaking them overnight. They are supposed to float at the beginning, because there is some air bubble in the seed. After a few hours, the seedling understand it has to breach its shell, which is why I give them a little tap and they sink, just like the tutorials say.
It's not uncommon for some to start floating later only, but 6 hours later? That's a bit odd, they are supposed to float maybe half an hour later (no clue whatsoever why this happen though). Today if you give them a little tap they are all supposed to sink to the bottom. 10 hours later you're supposed to see a sprout coming out from most of them... I keep them 24 hours in the glass of water (desert rain water... Sounds amazing for the seedlings) sometimes even 32 (yeah I know they may drown. So far so good).
To increase even more my percentage of success, I had to use sowing soil. It's extremely airy and thin, like sand almost (difficulty absorbing water though). Less nutrients in it also, no risk of burning your seedling. It seems to have done the job. I still get a few fail (1 out of 5)
