Howdy Sammy, I have had mold problems in the past during the curing stage. I have not had any mold problems with the last three (including the one in the jars now) grows.
Because I have changed the way that I cure my bud and trim. I changed two things;
A. I now use smaller eight ounce jars, in case that if a mold infestation does occur, the loss will be a lesser amount.
B. I do the curing in my refrigerator, not at room temperature. I have been told that I was wrong, but it just takes a little longer. The last grow only took 11 weeks to get to a 'smooth' level.
I still 'burp' or open up the jars at least twice a day for the first four weeks and then only once a day until done. My latest grow is curing out faster than any of the previous grows, but this is, I believe, because this grow was flushed before harvest, but that is an other topic.
The bad part is if you can smell the mold, then it is there and alltatup is correct, DO NOT SMOKE IT! I actually tried to smoke some moldy pot years ago (when I was young and stupid) and I would not recommend it unless You enjoy coughing up a lung or having splitting head aches.
