Hard to answer without more detail watering is very subjective. I would say follow her advice placing hat water directly at the plant base but also make sure the rest of the large pot around the plant stays watered as the plant grows into it and watering amounts increase

Let me add to Smallgrow's good advice.
- Don't overwater soil. If you are in coco/perlite, it is hard to overwater.
- If your plants were doing well in a five gallon fabric pot of coco/ perlite, a seven gallon pot equals 7/5's or 40% more growing medium, so up your watering volume to about 3 cups, +50%, as your plant grows.
But really, I ask, "Why the
concern?" Two plants from different strains or even the same seed batch can have different water uptakes. One watering schedule cannot fit all plants. I have used GH Trio + CaliMagic per Nebula's reduced nutrient mix for five years in coco with ZERO watering issues.
I will simply lift my 7 gallon fabric grow pots to gauge the weight and water lighter pots more, all to the point of getting run off in the saucer. Plants do well in my outdoors greenhouse. I was also a local county extension service master gardener and feel that cannabis is as easy to grow as tomatos. New growers tend to
over analyze things. Read up on the numerous tutorials on GWE and you will be fine.
