Mom Charged for Treating Her Daughter’s Seizures with Marijuana Butter

My 28 year old daughter has epilepsy, they now call it seizure disorder. She was about 12 when she had her first seizure. She has tried several different medications and now takes Trileptal twice a day (I don't know the dosage). While her seizures are under control she still has what is called Absence Seizures. She just blanks out, stares off, and does not hear anyone talking her. They usually last up to a minute and when she comes out of it, she is confused and disoriented for anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes.

Since the research first started showing the positive effects of medical marijuana for children with epilepsy, I have often wondered if it would help her. She is married with two young children and a full time job. Her life does not lend itself to her using pot, and I think she would be against it anyway, being very anti-drug.

Still I wonder..........would it help her? Our state (PA) is now medical legal all though it will be a year or more until the dispensaries open for business.

insom, my wife has epilepsy since she was 15. She has taken every anti seasure pill you can think of. Since she been using pot. Her seasures went from I-2 a week to 1-2 a year. I'm totally convinced that pot works.

If she is in a medical state then you could try recommending she goes to her Doctor and discuss it with them.

With epilepsy its important to keep the Doctors involved with any process that can affect current treatments. Especially if the patient is weaning off existing medications.

Not all strains help and in many cases the patients tend to use CBD based stains or CBD only oil. The CBD oil helps with the epilepsy but doesn't inhibit the patients ability to function in a sober fashion.

Exactly what morenugz said. It's the cbd that's kicking epilepsy's ass around the country. Still a long way to go but after you hear about some of the stories, it's very promising.

Thanks to the three of you for the replies. I think I will have a discussion with her about it. While we are still a while away from dispensaries, I think she should have a conversation with her neurologist about it. If he is anti-marijuana she can always find a new one. We are fortunate to live in an area with many specialists to choose from.

King, I'm so glad that your wife has found something that helps her!

Morenurg and Royal thanks for reminding me that it's the CBD that treats this condition.

After TWO major strokes (brain stem and Cerebellum) I can say cannabis works well neurologically. They wanted to put a feeding tube in me FOR LIFE They said I would NEVER walk or talk again. They said lots of things (ALL BAD). Now I drive a FAST car, hold a job and fly hobby drones as well as assemble them. I even post on this forum. All this happened AFTER I started using Cannabis. Am I 100% like before? NOT EVEN CLOSE. I do however have a life without pain or suffering. I have a high performance auto RED! 500 HP as well. My cars name?......"armed infidel" (it has a name custom painted on the back just like a boat!) My doctor prescribed pills have dropped by 80%. However, I do give my Volcano a work out!!! I gata go now I always spend my Mondays leaving BMWs at the light LOL
