Moby Dick CBD too big help!

I am growing Moby Dick CBD - Dinafem in a 33x33x63 tent(Noob mistake) using LED, Bubbleponics, Dyna-gro nutes, Hydroguard, CO2 and the manifold technique. I thought if I switched to flower 12/12 and Bloom nutes when she was only 12 inches tall (5 weeks from seed) it would be ok. Well she had other ideas. This tropical sativa dominant girl would not flower. She just kept growing. After 3 weeks "in flower" she did not even show me her sex yet. She filled the tent to all four corners and was 24" tall. Ok so I gave her 24 hours of dark switched to 13/11 longer night and upped the bloom and Mag-pro and she is blooming beautifully but with her stretch she is now too tall! I have been super cropping her to keep her out of the lights. The problem is now the stems are starting to get too brittle to bend over low enough to do any good. I may be able to gain a few inches by weighting or tying them down. Yikes!

So I guess my question is this: can anybody tell by looking at my pictures how much more vertical growth I may get on these buds? Ideas for controlling MOBINA?

It's really tough to control a plant that has gotten too big! If it's impossible to move to a bigger grow space/tent (probably the best option here), there's not a whole lot you can do besides keep bending and praying :( Plants usually do most of their flowering stretch in the first 2-3 weeks, but they'll continue to keep growing new stems and leaves at least a little bit until they're about 5-6 weeks in the flowering stage. After that they finally stop growing up and focus just on bud growth.

You can try to speed things up to harvest by making the days even shorter, like a 10-14 schedule, but I'm not sure if it would make a huge difference at this point. Other than that I'd just try to keep the top stems as short as I can. I wish I could help more!

Ok so can someone give me the optimum picture specifications those posted photos are not very good.

I just checked it, and pics can be 1440Wx900H and up to 900k in file size. The forum is still super young though, so we can always change those parameters as needed!

That's really strange she didn't flower for 3 weeks after flip. Have you confirmed you don't have a light leak or a timer malfunctioning? Even if it comes on for only a few minutes during "night" time, you're essentially keeping them in veg. (Gas lantern).

Maybe after you adjusted your timer it corrected the malfunction?

At any rate, i don't think there's anyway to tell how much more she's gonna stretch given your odd situation. You may need to risk supercropping if she grows into the light.
Not sure why the colas would be brittle, maybe try using some silica next time to give your plants some more pliability.

Yeah, she is crazy with foliage. I have defoliated her 4 times now. the last time was just 5 days ago and you cannot even tell i did it. I would be willing to bet she would be a 9 footer outside. oh well live and learn.

Thanks,

Hi Royal Nugs:

Thanks for the reply. Those were the first things I thought also and I checked them out when she was not even showing me her sex! in week 2 of 12/12. It turns out that Moby Dick is bred from 5 Sativa strains and only 1 indica and the CBD is from CBD Crew. Well the strong Tropical Sativa traits are running the show. In my research I have discovered that strains from the tropics where the days are 12/12 all year may not respond by flowering at the 12/12 flip until they feel they are mature. The procedure I used - 24 hours of dark and then 13/11 night/day cycles was recommended somewhere in my genetics research. Credit to a search engine. It seemed to have worked since they are flowering or she just decided she was mature LOL.

Anyhow thanks for your thoughts.

Ok, so here it is only two days since I started this thread and Mobina is still growing taller. Taking her outside is not an option so I pinched the stems harder and bent those tops over (super cropping but late in the grow). Whew:D none of them snapped and I gained about 3 inches. It looks like I may get a decent crop as the entire canopy is bud. Now if she will just grow out instead of up!

Hahahaha! I know it's just my imagination, but sometimes it seems like cannabis plants get vengeful. "You want a big plant, eh? Oh, I've got you covered!" *Stretches into grow lights*

Whaddya expect? They're all females we're working with! Tell em to do one thing, they do the other.... Just kidding... not really..

Yeah MOG, I'm a newb too and ordered a tent the same height as yours. Instantly regretted it lol. I loose so much space with the attachments for the hood that I wouldn't be able to use it. I decided it was better to just zip tie the hood to the top of the tent lol. After this first grow I'll be upgrading to something taller.

Pankace:

Yes a taller tent, shorter reservoir and DIY COB LED lighting all on my wish list. I know I will have a shorter larger reservoir; I already bought it. I am building and rebuilding it in my mind right now as I address the problems I am dealing with my current system. I am far from new to farming. I have been growing fruit and vegetables organically for over 40 years. I even did a hydro grow of cannabis indoors in the late 70s but I have slept since then! It is just this particular indoor system that is new to me. I have a Medical need for cannabis and the tightwad in me hates to pay for something I can grow myself. When I read that people grow pot in a bucket or old PC case. I just figured I could grow something in a 63" tall tent........... Mother Nature keeps me humble.

Hey Man,

I had the same problem with my Honey Haze. Even though I topped it at the fifth node and trained it, she kept stretching and took about three weeks to show pistils. Sativas were never my favorite. Live and learn.

Peace,

MOG:
Just reread your post about strech/flower. I'm going to wait another week (end of third week of light switch) and go your routine if I see no progress. Last grow of same strain stretched into lights like yours. Tweaked grow space in anticipation of similar stretch. Go figure...
