Lower temps during flowering??

Brown paper bags sweat the buds to promote more even drying. If the bud we like to smoke dries faster than the stem in the center of, it can leave an unpleasant smell/taste during the jarring process. Unless you can nail the dry time/temp/humidity perfectly, you really should use a paper bag to sweat the buds a bit.
I also like to save a bit of stem after harvest in the fridge. Just in case I over dry. You can really save yourself by putting it back in the jar with some overdried stuff. Just don’t leave it in the jar too long or the unpleasant smell comes in to play.
Boveda packs work well, but I found the RH in the jar needs to be at the same RH of the pack. I used a 62% pack to bring down some fresh cut that was still too wet and final bud flavor really suffered. I found it was best to bring the buds to 62% or less before I stuck the 62% packs in the jars.

So how do you do it? You cut down the Plant and put branches inside brown paper bags? And does the outside temp or humidity have anything to do with it? Is there anyone that can explain to me about this brown paper bag method?

I've never done paper bags. I have sweet sticky dense buds because of my light and how I cared for my plants. I should give it a try, I'm interested to hear the responses 😉.

Drying and Curing Marijuana

Drying and curing Marijuana is a 3 step and the last process in growing marijuana in order to smoke it without damaging your lungs and getting the best taste out of your buds

Drying Marijuana

Drying marijuana buds generally takes from 2- 6 weeks and curing marijuana can take 2 weeks up to 2 or more months. Drying time also depends on where you live and the place you dry them. Places in a desert would dry them faster, and tropical places would take longer

The first step after harvesting your marijuana buds is the drying possess. This can be performed by taking the branches and hanging them up side down so the fan leaves droop and cover the buds. During this step you need to put the branches in a cool dark place (not humid) with enough ventilation. It is good idea to check up on the buds every day to watch for signs of mold and mildew and correct the problem if it happens. After the fan leaves droop down over the flowers and turn crisp or break off easily, you would want to start trimming off the fan leaves only. Even a better way to take off the leaves is to do it before drying the marijuana buds because it it will be much harder to cut off the fan leaves after the buds have dried. So, I recommend you to cut them off before you hang the marijuana branches upside down.

The deal with this method is to dry it slowly but not to fast. If you dry your buds too fast it will make your buds smell like pine needles, hay, or taste bad. Drying the buds too slow in this first step is not a good idea ether because of mold and mildew will attack them. It's very important there's enough air circulation in the room so you can't do it without an electric driven fan.

After the fan leaves are trimmed you want to hang it up to dry again because the marijuana buds will still be moist or wet. They should still have the little inner leaves so they can droop and cover the buds . Hang the branches again in a cool dark place with proper ventilation until the little leaves and bud tips turn crisp when you touch them. It is then time to remove the buds from the branch and remove the rest of the leaf material as best as possible. This is what is referred to as "manicuring" of marijuana buds. But as said before it's better if you do this before you hang them to dry.

At this point the buds should be a little moist, including the inside of them. Some can be smokeable at this point, but if you wait till the next 2 processes you can get even better smelling and tasting buds

Bagging the Marijuana Buds

After the marijuana buds are trimmed (and a little moist still) you would want to dry them some more in the paper bag step. The best choice would be the brown shopping bags found at a supermarkets, because they are not bleached (the stuff you don't want in your buds) This is another tricky step. Put the trimmed marijuana buds in the brown bag loosely and its best not to fill it more than 3-4 inches from the bottom. It is not necessary at this time to close the bag ( still need to prevent mildew and mold) When the buds are in the bag you would want to check every day to rotate the buds in the bag so they dry evenly. This can be achieved by shifting positions of the marijuana buds, turning them ever so often, or shaking the bag. As the buds dry they will naturally compact into the self-preserving state that is mostly desired . At this time that the buds can be more compacted together and the bag can be folded close. They should now be fully smokable, though perhaps still ! slightly moist in the middle. A big reminder that every climate differs and may take more or less time. There is nothing better than repeated, hands-on checking to prevent damage to the marijuana buds from mold and mildew.

Curing the Marijuana Buds

The last step is to create a way to bring out the full flavor and best smoke from the marijuana buds. This can be done by using an air tight jar or similar. Put the dried buds into the jar loosely (do not compact them) and cover them. It is very important in the early jar-stage to check the buds at least once a day to replace the air, take them out(this helps dry evenly) and put them back in a different order. This should be done for 7 to10 days then it can be done lest often. After 7 days all you need to do is open the jar and check the buds on a daily basis for mold and mildew. If mold and mildew is found in this step. Take the buds with mold or mildew out of the batch (throw away) and put the rest back in a brown bag for a few more days then the jar step can be repeated . this step can take from 2 weeks to 2 months depending on how you want you buds to develop its distinctive characteristics. The longer the better

A bud is completely dry, cured, and ready for consumption when the stem in the middle of the bud snaps easily with the fingers. The snap is easy to detect with practice. The marijuana buds now can be sealed and stored for a really long period of time.

I dry my buds in my house, the temps are 70 degrees an the humidity very close to 50percent.
I trim leaves first, then put golf ball size buds in brown grocery store bags with the top folded over . Usually about 8buds a bag.
I don't ever unfold them, to look at them , they can breathe thru the bags.
I've done it enough to know in these conditions ,it's gonna be 6days before they are close enough to 62-64percent to go in the jars, then after in jars ,I burp the jars a couple of times for a week or two.And that's it. You can keep the jars closed then.
If it's 50percent where you dry ,it's gonna take 5days plus 1day, 6days total.
If it's 60percent humidity where you dry ,it's gonna take 6days plus 1day, or 7days to dry.
40percent it's gonna take 4days plus 1day, or 5days.
This is in brown paper grocery bags, hanging dries quicker, you want a slow dry, like in paper bags.
We used to hang dry ,but no more, paper bags from now on.
They are gonna feel over dry when you touch them, but when you put them in jars ,the humidity will go up to 64-66percent, you burp the rest out ,until you get to 62percent, or however you like yours.
Cardboard boxes even work, you just don't want the buds touching each other, takes the same amount of time though.
Thats just how we do it, we've tried many ways over the years, and I'm sure that there is many more ways to dry. But Brown bags are the best ,for keeping your smell, and stickyness.

So what size bag are we talking here D.A.A.S.69? 8 golf size buds sounds roughly close to an oz. Is that what you get from those bags? Roughly? I'll definitely do a side by side with your method with my shop grow. I've noticed after hanging though a good 3-4 month cure can make your buds smell and taste amazing. I've got a great cure method just hanging manicured colas that would please the connoisseur 😉

Chefbjy, I'm talking about them big buds you clip off of your main colas, 8 of them is an easy ounce ,wet..That's enough for 1 big brown grocery store bag, then just roll over the top inch or two, or use a close pin.
Stick them in a cool dark spot, we used to look at them all the time and move the buds around, shake the bag, all that sh-t, but we found it keeps the smell and stickyness better to never even open the bags.
When we used to grow outdoors, we would hang it in a barn, bunches of it. And soon as it started drying, we started smoking. Lol
If you got a good way, I'd love to hear it.
Cheers as Pagan says, lol

I like to manicure the best I can using all trim for edibles. I try to refrain from hanging side branching with main branches. At this time I already have my climate adjusted never going past 75f and my humidity fluctuates between 43% and 54%. Every time winter spring or fall these conditions have been met.

After around 3-5 days buds start feeling a little dry on the outside. I've gone up to one week before they were dry on the outside. Once the big nugs start to feel a little crispy on the outside they go into jars no matter if stems snap or not. I've always found they've over dried at that point and would have to add fresh green trim or big stems that were still bendy if they weren't a little stringy.

I don't typically use a hygrometer in jars I find I play with the jar to often trying to get it right when I do. After 18-24 hours in jars they get stirred taking a probe or tweezers to rotate buds that are sticking together....mostly from resin. They then stay open for up to 8 hours in the jars making sure to stir and I go by feel here. If they are dry on the outside the lid goes back on for another 18-24 hours.

Now I know my buds are too wet to be jarred really, because they still stick together and are moist on the outside. So I take all the bud out of the jars and put it on my drying rack for 12-16 hours or till buds feel crispy on the outside again. Then stick them back into jars. This is when my humidity stabilizes and no longer fluctuates that much. I pop open the jars every 18-24 hours after this process ends. If I can't stir my buds with my probe without them sticking together I may take them back out till they feel dry again. But normally they are just a little most and usually around the cure zone. I leave them open for 4-6 hours after stirring or till dry on the outside.

As days go by I don't have to leave them open as long. After 2 weeks the smell, taste, and stickiness are still there. After 4 weeks they are still rock hard and have to be left out of the jar so they crumble easy. After 8 weeks buds start to lose color but smell even better then they did after 2 and 4. A lot smoother and I swear this stuff gets better as time goes by as long as you got those first 2 weeks. Never had a mold problem and have even taken my stuff to the lab before, no molds in my tests. My water test is usually pretty high because my buds aren't dry but they ain't wet neither. After 6 weeks you can still squish the bud inbetween your fingers if you can get through the density it won't crumble, he'll won't even go through the grinder unless you leave it set out of the jar. They just plump right back up. Buds snap apart nicely but still tough to get through the grinder. You let that little nug set out and you'd swear you didn't think you put all that in the grinder 😉. I've had some pretty killer smoke ranging between 16% and 28% and tasty af. Cheers daas. 🍻

The time when you store then remove the buds from the jar (because they are too wet still) is called sweating the buds. This does the same thing a brown paper bag does. Only, you can get the mold faster and easier in a jar if not paying close attention. As daas said the brown paper bag is breathable. In my experience it’s a bit more forgiving than sweating it out in the jar. All in all, if done right will end the same way. Tasty dank that maximizes potency and flavor profile.

Chefbjy, your way sounds like I would work fine., good luck with it. Too many steps for me.lol, but if you like it, you like it.
I just cut my buds an put them in bags for 6days, then in jars, that get burped 2-3 times a day, for a minute or two.
We smoking some that's been in jars over 3years, and they still are sticky as hell, and smell great. Some of our jars ain't been opened in months, and still killer.
Never, ever had a problem with mold.
Thanks again Chefbjy.
Have a nice mellow Sunday, ole bud.

A couple days ago I started noticing that the leaves are getting super yellow on the ones that I'm believing are ready to harvest. And they've gotten yellow or by the day. One of them has red tinges in the yellow on the leaves. Is this light burn? If I screwed up the whole first harvest? I think they look like shit.

Can't get a real good view with the lighting. But yellowing this late is very normal. I like to pull the yellow leaves off as it ripens, saves some work on trimming 😉. I just give them a slight tug, if they don't come off easy I leave them be. It will lose all those pretty leaves. Just be mindful of the sugar leaves. For pretty buds you don't want yellow sugar leaves.

Greenpassion, i can't see sh-t either, with your lights on.
Sounds normal to me, you shouldn't even have to flush, if all your using is water an molasses, ain't nothin to flush. Good Luck

I should have posted that here with the photos. This is one of six that I'm thinking I should Harvest today. As you can see it's foxtailing really bad but the buds underneath the ones that are putting out new white pistils all have orange brown hairs on them. I've moved the light away., but I'm not really sure what to do as far as harvesting it.

They ain't gonna hurt a thing, but that plant looks ready to me, them white hairs is coming out of foxtails ain't they, and all the others are red.. If you can't see the trichs, I'd say that plant is ready.

Okay then. I will start cutting them down around 3:34 today. I think I'm going to try to just get used to the whole drying curing process by hanging them this first time around. Next time around I'll try the paper bag method. That should be coming up in about 6 weeks.

Hi Greenpassion, here is how I dry and cure mine. I cut my girls down one cola at the time. Trim all the leaves off to the point where I put them in the jar. Then I hang the colas up side down on a line I strung up in a storeroom in the basement where the temp stays between 50 and 60 degrees this time of year. About 25-30% RH. About a week to 10 days when I can break the small stems and bend but not break the fat stem, I cut the buds of the stems and put them in jars. I burp the jars once or twice per week for about 2 weeks and then leave them alone 'till I open the jar to smoke the stuff.
