HELP! Liquid nutes in a self irrigated planter

I've been looking for info on this for so long and I'm just ready to scream. I have some babies that will be officially popped by this evening. I will be using self irrigated planters for them when they are a little older and I plan on using Dyna gro grow and bloom for nutes ( cal mag when needed).

My question is; do I just mix the nutes with water and fill the reservoir? Do I follow the hydroponic schedule or soil? I guess that's 2 questions, but I'm looking for a definitive answer, or at least a majority opinion.


I did do a search here but either its never been asked ( which I find strange) or I'm just searching wrong ( which I could be). Any and all help is very much appreciated!!

🌱 Are you growing in soil? If so you want to treat it like you're watering soil plants. If in coco you would treat it like you're watering coco/hydro. I've never used a self irrigated planter but I'd guess you mix up the nutrient water, adjust the pH (6-7 for soil or 5.5-6.5 for coco/hydro), then fill the reservoir. I've found cannabis seems to do well with wet-dry cycles, so I'm not sure how you would do that. I just make sure to water the plants well, then wait until the top inch is dry before watering again. You need to be really careful with young plants not to water too often or give too much water at a time as they drink slowly and are easy to drown. The roots need to be wet, but the roots also need lots of oxygen to grow fast. 🌱

I'm growing in Miracle Grow promix potting soil.

It makes sense to me to just mix the nutes with water, pH, and fill the reservoir, but I just want to be sure.

No ditch the Miracle-Gro. If it has extended release fertilizer you won't like it. Nor will your plant when it gets into flowering check out the article on soils.

Miracle-Gro is one of the worst mediums for growing cannabis, due to the time-release nutrients. I can't help you with the nute part of your question but if at all possible -- I implore you! -- get something else to grow them in, like an organic soil mixed with perlite (which will help a lot with drainage).

I'm using a fox farm Strawberry Fields this little plants about 8 weeks old been flowering for about 2 have yet at any nutrients only pH water a little cal-mag and a little molasses.
