Lighting.

You should say that you have a Gorilla Tent that has about 0 - 0.01% leaks in light temps etc...That's gotta be a factor to be at ease with a 600w in such spaces!
 
Yeah i took the glass off from the hood to get to 75..These girls i got love the heat,the moisture AND the Light!! i thought they were gonna give me a hard time but then again,they are my first so i cant really know...
 
Nartak, I have a question for you because I do keep up with the latest tech and what is the latest talk at the big cannabis conferences and expo's and it so I guess my point on what I know is based in the latest scientific breakthroughs in plant science and accepted by big commercial growers. But according to them a plant gets to a point of being able to max out the light at 'peak efficiency' at 6-hours, so they switched the Veg light cycle from a straight 18-hours of light 6-hours of darkness to three periods of 6-hours of light followed by 2-hours of darkness still getting the same amount of light, but causing increased yields and increased growth rates.

Yet on the other hand I know nothing at all about Auto's and have recently been told I need to go back and relook at Autos and all of the advancements they've made with them, because they aren't what they used to be. It's something I've passed off and haven't put much thought into beyond what's in this thread catching my attention and reminding me I need to really look into they new Auto's. So does the 18-6 light broken up into three parts matter for an Auto... I've wondered, I know it works with normal plants, but I know nothing of Autos.
 
Greenthumb man that is nice information,i have looked at alternative cycles for photos and mainly that's where i have seen them apply! It kinda makes sense to split the cycles up if it isn't doing anything but consuming watts for 12 ours (18-6) but i really wouldn't know right now,still gave some great intel to look into!!

About he autos,it really depends doesn't it,i have seen 5oz autos in 24/7 and i have seen a couple failed ones (none of which were my own),also even since i started GWE i have been bumping into 24/7 light cycle posts all over the place!

What i suggested is what i have read online,what i have seen is 24/7 an HPS running and the plants did grow like mad and budup crazy..Sorry if i made it sound like it's a hidden rule among auto-growers lol!!
 
Well Nartak you gave me enough information to get me questioning things and so I went on a hunt in books I trust the information in and according to a very well book on cannabis breeding, it is stated in there Auto's are not affected by a 24-0 or 18-6 light cycle they perform equally. That is all great, well and good, but if as I was told to go look back at Auto's again, leads me to think they have made major advancements be it in the genetics, the breeding, or whatever else someone has figured out how to change something.., Which brings us back to the question if this is still true? I have books that are written by guys with Ph.D's who clearly state for a fact "Green Light" is not absorbed by a plant and they give you the long explanation as to why... and I have looked up cutting edge research today that says a small tiny amount of Green Light is in fact absorbed by the plant and can even reduce the yield a slight amount in an absolute darkness environment, and that we know nothing more on it but the research into a deeper understanding is currently being done to try to figure it out.

In the end Thank You, because I ended up finally being able to solve the age old question of to Flush or Not To Flush because of searching out this question... and if you go by what science believes they know right now about flushing and why people say to flush is because it means you will be able to have a finished cured product to smoke a lot sooner... However if you don't flush and push the harvest to the very end, the curing time can be a lot, LOT longer because it is going to take so much more time for everything to chemically break down and change, however you will get a better quality and higher yield. So I am very grateful for our conversation, it has really helped me to finally understand the two sides of that very long and old arguement.

The Egg

You were on your way home when you died.

It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me.

And that’s when you met me.

“What… what happened?” You asked. “Where am I?”

“You died,” I said, matter-of-factly. No point in mincing words.

“There was a… a truck and it was skidding…”

“Yup,” I said.

“I… I died?”

“Yup. But don’t feel bad about it. Everyone dies,” I said.

You looked around. There was nothingness. Just you and me. “What is this place?” You asked. “Is this the afterlife?”

“More or less,” I said.

“Are you god?” You asked.

“Yup,” I replied. “I’m God.”

“My kids… my wife,” you said.

“What about them?”

“Will they be all right?”

“That’s what I like to see,” I said. “You just died and your main concern is for your family. That’s good stuff right there.”

You looked at me with fascination. To you, I didn’t look like God. I just looked like some man. Or possibly a woman. Some vague authority figure, maybe. More of a grammar school teacher than the almighty.

“Don’t worry,” I said. “They’ll be fine. Your kids will remember you as perfect in every way. They didn’t have time to grow contempt for you. Your wife will cry on the outside, but will be secretly relieved. To be fair, your marriage was falling apart. If it’s any consolation, she’ll feel very guilty for feeling relieved.”

“Oh,” you said. “So what happens now? Do I go to heaven or hell or something?”

“Neither,” I said. “You’ll be reincarnated.”

“Ah,” you said. “So the Hindus were right,”

“All religions are right in their own way,” I said. “Walk with me.”

You followed along as we strode through the void. “Where are we going?”

“Nowhere in particular,” I said. “It’s just nice to walk while we talk.”

“So what’s the point, then?” You asked. “When I get reborn, I’ll just be a blank slate, right? A baby. So all my experiences and everything I did in this life won’t matter.”

“Not so!” I said. “You have within you all the knowledge and experiences of all your past lives. You just don’t remember them right now.”

I stopped walking and took you by the shoulders. “Your soul is more magnificent, beautiful, and gigantic than you can possibly imagine. A human mind can only contain a tiny fraction of what you are. It’s like sticking your finger in a glass of water to see if it’s hot or cold. You put a tiny part of yourself into the vessel, and when you bring it back out, you’ve gained all the experiences it had.

“You’ve been in a human for the last 48 years, so you haven’t stretched out yet and felt the rest of your immense consciousness. If we hung out here for long enough, you’d start remembering everything. But there’s no point to doing that between each life.”

“How many times have I been reincarnated, then?”

“Oh lots. Lots and lots. An in to lots of different lives.” I said. “This time around, you’ll be a Chinese peasant girl in 540 AD.”

“Wait, what?” You stammered. “You’re sending me back in time?”

“Well, I guess technically. Time, as you know it, only exists in your universe. Things are different where I come from.”

“Where you come from?” You said.

“Oh sure,” I explained “I come from somewhere. Somewhere else. And there are others like me. I know you’ll want to know what it’s like there, but honestly you wouldn’t understand.”

“Oh,” you said, a little let down. “But wait. If I get reincarnated to other places in time, I could have interacted with myself at some point.”

“Sure. Happens all the time. And with both lives only aware of their own lifespan you don’t even know it’s happening.”

“So what’s the point of it all?”

“Seriously?” I asked. “Seriously? You’re asking me for the meaning of life? Isn’t that a little stereotypical?”

“Well it’s a reasonable question,” you persisted.

I looked you in the eye. “The meaning of life, the reason I made this whole universe, is for you to mature.”

“You mean mankind? You want us to mature?”

“No, just you. I made this whole universe for you. With each new life you grow and mature and become a larger and greater intellect.”

“Just me? What about everyone else?”

“There is no one else,” I said. “In this universe, there’s just you and me.”

You stared blankly at me. “But all the people on earth…”

“All you. Different incarnations of you.”

“Wait. I’m everyone!?”

“Now you’re getting it,” I said, with a congratulatory slap on the back.

“I’m every human being who ever lived?”

“Or who will ever live, yes.”

“I’m Abraham Lincoln?”

“And you’re John Wilkes Booth, too,” I added.

“I’m Hitler?” You said, appalled.

“And you’re the millions he killed.”

“I’m Jesus?”

“And you’re everyone who followed him.”

You fell silent.

“Every time you victimized someone,” I said, “you were victimizing yourself. Every act of kindness you’ve done, you’ve done to yourself. Every happy and sad moment ever experienced by any human was, or will be, experienced by you.”

You thought for a long time.

“Why?” You asked me. “Why do all this?”

“Because someday, you will become like me. Because that’s what you are. You’re one of my kind. You’re my child.”

“Whoa,” you said, incredulous. “You mean I’m a god?”

“No. Not yet. You’re a fetus. You’re still growing. Once you’ve lived every human life throughout all time, you will have grown enough to be born.”

“So the whole universe,” you said, “it’s just…”

“An egg.” I answered. “Now it’s time for you to move on to your next life.”

And I sent you on your way.

Hey guys I got a little question that doesn't quite relate to lighting issues but it's related to humidity... I have the 3 auto seedling and the humidity is ranging between 40-50% is this a problem? Should I buy another humidifier or two? Should I be keeping it in the 60s during this stage? They're at about day 6
 
Kyle1116 & bobsakamoto 40-50% is good but not great!Your plants will generate more RH as they grow!Also if you are worried and want optimum 40-60% put a bucket with water in there or shut off the exhaust fan(Timing it 2hours on 1 hour off or something like that is also good)..If that is not possible due to a hood or some other reason,you will have to go for a humidifier!40-50% is still ok to grow,i never had a stable RH over 55%
 
Also a quick little update. One of the auto seedlings is displaying signs of sickness...I think it may be slight nutrient burn from the soil

Ok,give us Ph and runoff Ph!First things first!! Now what soil are you using!!I have read here that (i think) there is a FF soil that will burn seedlings now matter what(i blieve it was ocean forest,not sure)
 
When it comes to keeping a stable humidity, well I think you will find it is a lot harder to gauge than you realize. First a dehumidifier if you read the little brochure they have where they sell them will even tell you when they say it will remove so much moisture for such and such sized room, they figure it at "optimal conditions". Now if you have a high humidity you need to increase the size of the dehumidifier, if you have a low humidity and want to get it even lower you again need to step up the size of the unit you have... At some point you just hit a place where the electricity needed to run the dehumidifier outweighs the fact it just isn't doing its proper job. So let's say you went with something like a Chiller run dehumidifier, which to sum this up for you has cold water being pumped through the dehumidifier at all times and only the fan kicks on as needed to move the air. Think of a cold glass of water sitting out on a hot day, same concept the moisture will collect and be removed from the air saving money on electrical and it can run non-stop 24-7...

Even if you had that issue all fixed up, the size of the plants, how the air flows around the room and in between the plants, etc... will really help to determine your end room RH % (humidity level)... and let's just say for the sake of argument you even went out and bought an environmental controller like the DEC-4 for $300 so you can really dial down the RH to set values for Day-Night and the swing number of when the dehumidifier would come on and went it would go off again... it would still be a real issue trying to control your RH precisely. If you have your entire growing area sealed air tight, the RH will really skyrocket and you will battle to lower the RH, but even then there is always something throwing off the RH high or low it seems... So while it does always seem like you will be able to keep a steady and set RH... I myself have had this pipe dream many times and never been able to do it, so if you do, please keep me in mind and tell me how you managed to pull it off.

The biggest issue is either you have the dehumidifier on or the humidifier on... it never seems like you should need both units at the same time, but it always seems like you are needing to switch them out every so often as to which one you need today, based on weather and times of the year.
 
Okay I think I know what it is, it's the one type mold commonly that leads to bud rot attacking your plant... at least that is what it clearly appears to me to be. Try this as an experiment to see if I am right on this, take a photo of your plant with the flash on your camera, look to see if more lighter spots show up in the photo which you can compare to what you see with your eyes and see if those lighter areas don't exist to the naked eye. I learned LED and the camera flash can show the reflection of the damaged being done by mold up to 5-7 days ahead of when you might actually see it with your eyes. When I discovered this on my own, I then went and found proof and evidence which backs up what I felt I discovered to be true and a fact.

If it is mold, there is a lot of ways to go about trying to attack it, the one which has always worked best for me personally is to just buy this $2 bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide from the drug store which comes in it's own little spray bottle, and I just directly spray it on my plants. I've done this to seedlings which started to be hit by dampening off, I've done this to plants being full on attacked right near harvest and I was in need of a miracle to save me. In the time I've been doing this, I've hardly lost a plant to mold... before I discovered this I use to do the milk treatment for mold, just make sure it's room temp milk that you use and not cold milk from the fridge.

The other thing to really know if it really is mold as I suspect and believe it to be is that once a plant is infected with mold it is systemic, in other words it gets inside the plant and is almost impossible to get out of it, if you were to take a clone from a plant which has been hit by mold previously, the clone will also have mold in it, just waiting for the right conditions to attack the plant again and the others around it. There is some new Food Safe products from BIG AG that has come to the commercial guy's now that will actually kill mold and stop it being systemic, but it only comes in 2.5 gallon containers which is good news as they down sized it from the smallest being a 50-gallon drum. It's the only product I know of to actually treat and completely wipe out the mold, the others will kill the mold you see and stop the mold for now... until the conditions are right and it strikes again. What this really means for you at the end of the day is just to be aware and keep an eye out for mold, properly wet it down and clean it whenever you see it and do your best to never let any puddles of water sit around or give it a wet spot in which to find a place to grow. With mold knowledge to prevent it and fight it goes further than chemicals to try to fight it later on.
