Lighting Questions

I've already started a indoor garden using cheap florescent lights with 6500K tubes rated at 2090 luminous that most of my garden is doing great under. I have a LED shop light from Walmart that is rated at 3500 luminous but the lux is slightly under that of the tubes.

Anyhow my question is. Would it help anything to use a couple of these cheaper LED lights alternated with the tube lights or should I just go buy a couple more florescent lights to build my grow area for my auto flowers I'm starting?

I like to experiment but I'm sure someone has already tried this & has the answer.
 
I had 2 Walmart 5000 lumens led shoplights. I used them alongside T5 florescents. They didn't hurt none except they run HOT. At 45 watts each idk if they were worth battling the heat.
 
JDU I should use those outdoor tent instead of my chicken coop heater. It's a sad setup for keeping them but it works so far. My old LED is running 24hr out there to keep them going. This will be the last time I do crazy with the clones LOL uh huh.
 
SoOrbudgal Haha you n me both!!! Cloning is too fun. Someone should hide my scissors!! But yeah- if you're runnin 24 on they will def add some heat & I vegged that Mango under them at first. Did just fine.
 
Just remember that cannabis is unique in that it loves full spectrum light...more so than say regular garden vegetables. In the great outdoors, in very sunny but humid areas, some cannabis plants can grow as tall as 11 feet!

Lumens are a measurement for the human eye. They mean very little to a cannabis plant. PAR (photosynthetic active radiation) is more important.

I find the biggest mistake most new indoor growers make is poor lighting. Proper full spectrum light is necessary for cannabis to thrive...poor light equals poor yields. Full spectrum light to a cannabis plant is more important than soil or added nutrients.

Invest in a good light and you will reap the reward. Just make sure you avoid looking at cost versus safety. Most LED manufacturers do not safety test their panels in accordance with government safety standards except some models of ViparSpectra. I have just found this to be true. The LED lights bought at Walmart are getting extremely hot & one of them has melted the end cap. I had actually switched all of the florescent lights out to the LED. It would take a few days to see if my plants like the difference tho.
