Light leaks.

I'm about to make a new grow space for my next grow, exactly how critical is it to have absolute black darkness? Outdoor plants never really get totalk darkness. Also how much exposure is necessary to mess up the flowering?
 
Ok, I have heard (but find it very hard to believe) that even the teeny tiniest light leak, like the orange glow of a power strip can mess up the bloom cycle. You DO NOT want any kind "white" light leaking through door frame. Are you using a tent or making a space in your house. We grow in a tent in our garage. We nailed a piece of plywood over the one window just to be safe. I think if you are using something like a closet, you do have to figure out a way to completely block off light leaks around the door. Perhaps rig up a piece of dark poly that you can secure in place during dark hours.
 
We did cover the blue light on our dehumidifier just by laying a black sock over it.

BTW, I agree an outdoor grow can never have 100 percent darkness.
 
just out of curiosity I'd like to know how outdoor plants can get some light but indoors they can't ? Sounds like discrimination to me! LOL
 
Seasons, outdoors the sun sets gradually, a little bit later every day. It has the full spectrum of colors all day. I had a hard time to get my head around it too. But if you think about the difference with growing inside vs. outside you can see all the differences. The only color that you can use in a grow room that is in night mode is green. Green light will not interfere with the dark cycle. Other then that. No light leakes, less you want to Hermie you babies.
 
Did you know Green light won't effect your plants. I keep a green flash light near the tent handy. And taught my boyfriend at night only the green one dear. ( he doesn't smoke and wonders if I'm sane sometimes)
