Light Color in Vegetative Stage

Hi, I am a new home grower. My husband just bought a led grow light. It has red and white light. His source says white light for vegetative and red for flowering stage. Mine says the opposite. Could you help dispel this confusion?

red lights, yellow lights purple lights...makes no real difference if it is a cheap grow light...Full spectrum is what you really need.

The idea though is white/blue spectrum is veg and red/amber/orange is for flower
