Lava rock in dwc

Howdy Bigjames, I have not used lava rock in my DWC grows, but I do remember seeing adds, back in the 70's for it. The primary concern is pH stability. The chemistry of lava rock can vary a great deal, so One would need to test it's pH stability by placing a sample of the lava rock into a container (preferably glass) with pH balanced water (7.0) for several hours and the test the water to see if the pH has changed. If the pH does not go up or down, then it is probably safe to use.
