I reluctantly accept 3 plants because I did not want to seem ungrateful but just as I figured came with a bunch of knats I have two separate room so this is not affecting my flowering I have been able to keep my rooms pretty clean and close to 0 bug problems I have organic insecticide soap I've been applying but not seeing results I've even let soul dry out more than I should but just keep seeing 5 or so adults every time I shake my container help plzzz
 
I battled with your same problem what I have done is I put an inch layer of sand that you can get at any hardware store and then I would put containers either with a sweetened drink like coffee or juice the Nats love it and go in there and died with sand they won't lay their eggs and if there is sggs in medium they can't lift the layer of sand and will die.
 
Set a gnat trap. Put apple cider vinegar in a glass jar and cover with aluminum foil. Punch holes downward, big enough that they can get it, but the tin foil curling downward will prevent them from coming back out. If holes are too big they will escape.
 
Yeah gnat traps could work also anything yellow they're attracted to. I've made my homemade traps with petroleum jelly and anything yellow

Wht would u suggest to poke hole a pen tooth pick needle??
 
So they are attracted to yellow? I assume you mean really bright yellow? Spray paint a few paper plates and apply a layer of petroleum jelly? Does that work with fruit flies too, or do they need the sweet / rotty smell?
 
A pen is too big. I used a toothpick. I got this idea from internet. I just did a google search and it appears that you can also use plastic wrap pulled taut. A few other pictures showed the very tip of a pointy ended cone coffee filter cut off. Google it, you will get the idea.

It really does work great. We had an infestation a few years ago and I made three of them. Next morning I absolutely could not believe the amount of dead fruit flies in those jars. I repeated three days in a row and they were gone forever.
 
Insomniaczzz, yeah should be pretty bright yellow have never tried to make them smell, they get stuck in the jelly and can't get out I'm not sure if it would be strong enough for fruit flies though. I've had better luck using containers of apple cider vinegar or something sweet. Very sweet coffee works I've noticed for all flys and knats and bugs in general
 
Of course you can bacterium thuringensis (available as mosquito bits or chunks) which will knock the hell out of them and is non toxic to your plants and you.
 
Bacillus thuringiensis (BT) wipes out gnats. It's found in mosquito dunks. Very effective. To quote nebula:

4.) Kill the Larvae in The Soil
  • (Best Option) Bacillus thuringiensis bacteria - Use a pest treatment with bacillus thuringiensis bacteria (subspecies israelensis is best). After applying your bacillus thuringiensis treatment, water your plants liberally and go to the next step. More information about bacillus thuringiensis below.
I personally recommend using crushed up Mosquito Bits or Mosquito Dunks
 
I've heard that stuff works well. But I've also heard that it kills dragonflies so I would be reluctant to try it Outdoors

I just clapped one of those damn fungus gnats into nonexistence. They are attracted to the bright computer screen. This does work, but I may have woke up my wife.

Not over watering, and good ventilation seem to help. I didn't have much luck with the traps. The yellow strips I have yet to try. Gnatnix looks like a winner.
