Killed my bulb

So the other day I unplugged my light by accident and then plugged it right back in but the light never came back on. ive done this before with out issue not saying u should. this bulb was a year old but I can sure see damage inside it and I'm sure I did it. So I'm wondering shouldn't my ballast have stoped tht from happening? Or did it do exactly what it was spost to and keep it from blowing the bulb And damaging my hood?

You checked the breaker i assume?
it could have been a surge or an arch that caused it too :(

Breaker wasn't flipped and I'm pretty sure I created the surge by unplugging and then plugging back in right away

If your ballast has a warm up before lights kick on them it wasn't ballast but if you don't let it cool down before you plug it back in it's very possible you fd up. Next time let it cool down for 10-15 minutes before you plug it back in.

the ballasts give the bulbs a slow start and stop on/off the bulbs are not designed to turn on and off like a light switch and if the bulb was a year old then it was time lol

Yes it was def time for a new mh bulb anyways but now I understand my equipment just a little more. good thing I just bought a new hps bulb

I was tould years and years ago to wait an hour to turn my light back on but i alwsys tht it was because tht hood was a street light we had taking and used to grow flowers so it had no ballast lol
