Kelp for high temps

I just read a little bit about using kelp to help with heat stress when temperatures get over 80°.
This time of year I run about 77° with occasional highers throughout the grow. Are my temperatures high enough that kelp will do whatever it is to help grow in higher temperatures?
 
Yes. Seaweed and kelp are great for helping plant deal with stressful situations Beit heat, transplanting, cold etc. used it in my outdoor grows and my uncle's also use it in their outdoor grows. We get it from the beach, I rinse the salt out of mine but uncle doesn't....
 
Funny that you would bring that up. I just fed my plants a kelp & molasses tea this morning. I had never heard of kelp for heat stress, so of course I had to do some research, and you're absolutely right. Handy tip. Thank you
 
My beach has been closed for Mexican sewage runoff issues for years. I'll buy my seaweed, thank you very much!
 
Yuck. Fair enough. Seaweed is a food for plants too. Not sure if you have it over there maybe something similar? But we have seasol over here, you can look it up, a very very popular product for outdoor grows, one buddy uses only that and has for the last 9-10 years. A couple of the hydro starter kits Ive bought also had a bottle of seaweed included.
 
I've been using kelp for years, not so much as a nutrient for the plants but like molasses, it's very beneficial for the soil and the microbes that break down natural nutrients in my soil. It also contains important minerals that are easily accessible without causing lockout.
 
DabberD, I'm all about the soil. I spend just about as much time on developing my soil as I do growing in it. I have three 35 gallon compost bins as well as a vermiculture bin that I constantly keep going. What can I say? Its been working for me. The kelp is an additive I've been using for a number of years and perhaps that's why my plants have tolerated the crazy late summer California heat as well as they have.
 
No, MiguelEnfermo but you got me researching.
I first used and thought molasses was good for coco. Then I thought it was only beneficial for soil because the microbioisms coco doesn't have make the sugars available for the plant.
Recent research has me back to coco might be a good thing. You might have found a good segue. We haven't talked about molasses for a while.
 
It is the unsulfured untouched stuff. Strange thing...I put a little of both into a pH'd bottle of water and let it set for a couple days. I see it start fermenting (tiny bubbles) before I even put it in the plant.
 
Not organic but Si will help mitigate temp stress but it has to build up with in the plant so a one time inclusion will do nothing.. I was just reading about kelp the other day but our heat wave has broke..T.G no more worries this season " I think that will be the case".

I live in metro Phoenix and used powdered kelp in my current outdoor grow soil prep. Doing two Apple Betty's, sativa/indica mix. Temps always over 100°F, sometimes 110°, 10-15% RH. They are doing great, one is 7' tall after two months in ground, the other 6'.
I really believe we over think what the plants need to thrive. I used Home Depot 15-15-15, supplemented with Miracle Gro, now Miracle Bloom just to prove it can be done. I question if you need kelp in a plant friendly SoCal environment. Good ground, basic nutes and they will grow themselves for an experienced cultivator.!
 
I use this in Hydro, its not to expensive and it contains natural chelating agents. Very important for BRIX levels

Lots of ways to increase the sugars the roots make, There is a company that makes an additive that can be used in soil to increase the sugar in the sap. They dont make it for Hydro and told me it was impossible to have a brix of more than 5% in hydro. I get mine up to 10-15 every grow but it took some time to get there
 
That looks interesting, MICROBE LIFE HYDROPONICS has some pretty good supplements too but they have too many to choose from IMO
 
Spent two and a half years in and graduated from Glendale. 's where I learned about dope. Phoenix is bloody hot.
My plants grow fine. And I agree that we tend to overthink things. I figured kelp might be an easy add on my warm days.
As far as I'm concerned about MG, use it for photos and fems. It's not so great for autos. Sticks around too long. I've done autos in MG. They were the loosest buds I've ever gotten.
