Jar Size for Curing

Hi all…can you give some guidance on mason jar size that you commonly use for curing and storage?

Quarts, half gallon and gallon with the quarts being preferred.

I cure in ¼'s and store longer in ¾'s because I need the ¼'s for the next cure.

I'm not understanding 1/4s and 3/4s. Can you explain?

¼ or a quart refers to a quarter gallon size jar, metric equivalent 1000ml or 1 litre.

I'm gonna try an make this brief but it's another story LOL.......i'm picking up my food to deliver for my meals on wheels route this morning. In the big kitchen where it's prepared there's a flat of tiny washed used jars of pimento slices i mean tiny jars. Like 18 of them with a little note saying " for Judy and her " coleslaw " i said kinda small for coleslaw. The cooks all chime in and make the sign of taking a toke off a doobie LOL it's for her homegrown little tiny gift jars LOL. I nearly fell over. All these folks who volunteer are between 65-80+ yrs old. Yahoooo

I bet a lot of those jars return as gifts back in said kitchen.

I use small jars for that exact same purpose. I hate plastic zip lock backs with a passion. It reminds me too much of black market weed from dealers...just hate it.

Quart size canning jars are preferred, but make sure they are the wide mouth kind, brand won't matter. I've used turkey bags as well, no problem there but prefer the jars. I cure in quart size and then long term store in half gallon size jars if I need to.

I use wide mouth gallon jars. I can usually fit around a 6 oz per jar.

We used to use 'Fold lock sandwich bags', but that was 50 yrs ago

I prefer the wide mouth jar, but I'll use the small mouth jars when I must, they do work.
