Is my first root too long?

Hey guys, so as i stated on my last post, this is my first attempt on growing cannibus. I germinated 12 SuckerPunch and Lemon Haze seeds using the paper towel method for 48 hours. 3 of the seeds outgrew the rest and cracked out of their shell and grew 2 sets of leafs. Is that bad? Did i leave them in the paper towel for too long? Also the root is pretty long, along with the others the root on each seed was just marvelous to my knowledge, but what do i know, thats why I need your input, Im going to post some photo so you guys can see what im talking about, i just want to know if thats normal, or if i did something wrong, feel free to comment. .....nevermind i just tried uploading images for 20 min, its not letting me.

Hey lilPablo, welcome to the forum. The moment you see the root, you put the seed, root down of course, in your grow medium. The moment they show above ground (or whatever medium you're using), you put them under light, or they will stay yellow and stretch out looking for light.

Try to downsize your images; they may be too big.

You know, its interesting but i remember reading that with the tap root down, the plant root will actually grow up and then down, exhausting energy in the process. Having it up will be more efficient.
I have always done it taproot down.

Danofdanger but 3 of the seeds grew a set of cotyledons in the germination process between the paper towels, does that mean i left them in there for too long? The rest of the seeds just grew pretty long taproots.....I also forgot to mentiom that i touched the seeds but i sanitized my hands then rinsed them with Water (Ph accomodated), should i have used something else?

Yes, you only want to see the root emerge while in the paper towel. I use Root Riots, I stick the seed in the most root riot, put in germination tray with an air flow lid on a germination heating pad, keep em moist, and as soon as something is emerging out the top, I put them under light.

A Root Riot is just like a Rapid Rooter, but made by another company (I don't like GH). Yes, I pH my water and thoroughly moisten the root riot. I turn them upside down so that the wider end is the base; I learned the first time, that the tinier end won't stand up on its own (see picture).

My germination tray lid has slots on the top which I keep open so that there is air circulating, but the moisture doesn't dry up real fast (I don't want to be in there once an hour moistening the root riots, but I do check them 3-4 times a day). I keep the germination pad around 83 degrees. I just stick the seed in; I don't even pre-soak it.

Out of the six seeds in the picture, 5 germinated very quickly, and one got its tap root broken; R.I.P. Like I said above, as soon as I see them emerge, I put them under light so that they don't turn yellow or stretch seeking light. This is the crucial time to keep an eye on them, keep them moist, and wait for roots to start emerging from the root riot. The moment I see roots coming out (which you DON'T want exposed to any light), I put the root riot in the net pot with hydroton, and put water in my reservoir (I'm a hydro grower). I keep the water high, but not high enough to moisten the bottom of the net pot; I don't want to make lazy roots, I want them to grow down seeking water. I keep watering by hand. As soon as I see roots descending into the reservoir, I add a very weak nutrient solution, turn on the drip emitters, and stop hand watering.

On my first grow last summer, I can't tell you how many expensive seeds I killed, but it was quite a few. Then I started to get the hang of it.

What medium are you growing in: soil? hydro?
