Once my plants are established in their containers I am aiming to irrigate/feed/water them with 1/4 the size of the container. Giving me from what I have been measuring a little over 25-30% runoff. Then I will wait to water until I see the top of the coco drying out and I can really feel the container getting lighter. From what I've read I think roots grow better in coco on the dryer rather than wetter side, HOWEVER; IMO Since COCO. Is HYDRO and fully saturated and it can theoretically still contain 30% oxygen so I would try not to let my containers get over 50%Dry-if that makes any sense. -Maybe just try not to let them dry out. If this helps I also read that COCO WORKS BEST AT A PH OF 6.0?
 
Zack I grow in coco you have the right idea I water by hand each plant gets the same amount I give them enough for 3 days .you have to figure out what the plant is using, I use 2 different scoops one is a quart the other 1/2 gallon .start out with giving seedling/clones about a pint and check it every day if it last 1 day give a little more until it goes 2 days and so on and so on. I find that healthy adult plant either in veg or bloom will drink about 1 gallon every three days the reason I do it this way is because I like to have a twice a week watering this enables me to give them different nutes during the same week. also during seedling and the beginning of veg until I transplant them into 5 gal. pots i stick with the gallon pots and the quart scoop,hope this helps
 
I like those plant stands Zack, and you're containing your run-off so it doesn't raise humidity which could be really useful in flowering.
 
That is absolutely what I want to do. seems like they want that i feel like I see more growth when they dry out a bit. I keep reading about watering once a day with not much runoff and low ppm cause it's "hydro", but besides holding onto oxygen, it holds on to moisture as well am I right? Also, I do feed on the "light" schedule and have been trying to stay below 500ppm. Does that sound right to you? I started off using just Foxfarm and r/o now after some reading I made the switch to just canna coco and my tap that's around 7.7, 166ppm. I cut out calmag as well don't think I'm seeing deficiencies with that if anything the moment I switched nutes it was like ridiculous!
 
oldjarhead100 I like the idea of 2 different size scoops, I'm guessing that's all you have to use and for simple reasons. You go from 16oz to 5 gal? Based off of my observations on using a 1 gal and a 3 gal...-I will never finish in a 1gal again i'm seeing major differences in size of the plant, even with watering it more often. I did read that when some grow in coco they try to transplant up more often as I'm guessing to water less or drip to waste not sure...
 
I go from gal to 5 gal. so the roots have more room to grow (Bigger the roots bigger the bud) I used 3 gal for a few grows but then I read that about the roots being bigger giving bigger bud . so I switched to 5 gal pots its worked I get much bigger yields in 5 gal verses 3 gal. pots after this grow I will be switching to fabric pots they allow more air in. I do have those air pots that I use i haven't seen a big difference between plastic or air pots but I like the thinking with fabric you'll figure it out. just keep track, things tend to change from strain to strain to
