Insulating A Tent?

I grow in coco but I would think if one grows dwc / hydro they would need to keep the res at a acceptable temp to promote root growth...Plants would not react well to temps being to low,, I can tell from clones...they take for ever to root with out a seed pad....It took me a bit to realize I needed to go dig out the seed pad and run it...clones look good, green with no issues but they just were not growing until I put some heat under the them.

changeofpace2014 Once again, I can only apologise for my complete bewilderment at this 'unique' system here. I can't 'Thank' your " Comment ". Nor can I reply in the more customary fashion. I don't know how to. Or if it's even possible :straight-face:

Anyway; Yeah, in that corner of my mind labelled " How Do I Do This? " I see that 'Water' is rising. To the top of my list, that is. Thus I have fish tank heaters and battery operated (emergency) air pumps floating round my head.

First of all though, I'm juggling between nute's and something to test their levels with. 'PH Thing Vs. Those 'Litmus' Papers a member, on here, seems to be on a one man crusade about.

I know which nute's (Brand) I want. I'm still yet to roll the two testers and see which comes out on top. That I'll post about, once I've dug into it all and have a clearer outlook.

Warming seeds / Heat trays? Heh! Funny what even the worst of sleeps allows the brain to do. Last night I was thinking: " I have heat mats. But, damn! Another Thermostat?! They don't come cheap and I Know to only trust Good shit! What to do ....? "

Today? LMFAO! I'm thinking; " That Bullfrog of mine Lives In the most cutting edge, temperature controlled environment possible! All I have to do is pop my seed in there. Job done! " He won't touch it. I'll just put it in a thin, plastic tub. Like my (Pond) weed is, in there.

Granted; I woke up to a nightmare, yesterday. Power cut had tripped the circuit breaker during the night. Frog was near frozen. But, what's a man to do? This shit happens. People walk in front of trucks too. Nebula's told me how to do as much as is humanly possible, to protect my plant for some hours. Frogs power going out again, at night? First time I remember it happening. And a thermostatically controlled heat mat would have gone out just as well! ;)

See how I'm thinking?

I used to run my reef tank heaters and circulators off batteries and charged the batteries off the mains. I haven't been without power for long enough to have to charge the batteries from the generator but that's how off-grid living works, you live off the batteries and charge them however you can. Passive solar is another thing to consider for heat.

That's the way to do it alright, Gizmo. And I can grasp the basic principle too ~ I think. I remember having a similar thing going on, in a past life, to run a CB Radio, would ye believe? (Or, did we pun a Battery Charger from the mains and keep That stuck to the motor battery, sat there on the floor? What ever) I agree, entirely, of course. Hell of a work around.

Unfortunately, shit changes. I had friends, then. People who knew what they were doing and could do a mate a favour. Bob was our boy for all things radio and the odd bit of electrickery. Here, it was Dean O' the bomb maker. Now? It's just me. And I don't know shit about stuff like that.

Ain't bitching. Just the way it is  Got a man, in US, right this moment. At his wits end because he can't catch this particularly crafty mouse. Maybe he's an Electrical Engineer? My professional trade was a Rat Catcher. I'd have his clever mouse dead in five minutes. But, there we are. Easy for me to say and do.

Anyway, I'm retired now and it's killing me, just buying the bare necessities for this grow. The electricity bill will probably finish me. Plus, I don't think I'll ever make you guys comprehend the utterly surreal situation we're in here, with the price of juice. If there's any usable batteries out there? They'll be under the owners bed, now. With his shot gun.

Never mind. Where there's a will

So the rich people play golf and the people that own the golf carts replace the batteries every two or three years. Really they should last 6 or 8 years so they have plenty left. If you can find out who sells the batteries you go there to buy the old ones. It's not something you do in an emergency more of long term project. I think a lot of people here are growing on fixed-incomes. For me, I'm saving so much over what I spent at the dispensary that I don't worry about it (but I'm so cheap I really, really try to keep costs down.)

You know if you live off the grid why isnt there pounds of marijuana in the fall. That way there wouldnt be a waste of energy wondering about the cold,. Good Luck

regarding seed mats, mileage varies with different brands..the one I have is to hot for ceramic plates and seeds but perfect for 1 qt fabric pots after germination..The hotwater heater works best for me to germinate on..
