Infused Coconut Oil mg/g Expectations

How many milligrams per gram of total active cannabinoids should I expect by infusing 1/4 ounce of bud into 1/2 cup of coconut oil if the bud contains 16% total active cannabinoids? I have spent a small fortune on testing but don't have a bench mark to compare to (tCheck is on back order). Lab results show that I have 100% decarb success (changing THC-A to THC) by baking small cut up bits of flower in an oven for 1 hour at 240F. I have tried different methods of extracting the thc into coconut oil by cooking it in the oven with oil at 215F and 240F for 90 minutes, boiling in water 2hrs with oil and using a slow cooker for 6 hours. My infusions have been 3.3 to 6.7 mg/g so far but would like to get higher numbers. Actually the best numbers came in at 15 to 22 mg/g using very frosty trim; some say the high numbers may have been due to the kief in the bottom of the trimming tray. What kind of numbers do people see for infused coconut oil? What can I do to improve? I am trying to make healing salves and cook some chocolate.

7 grams@16% thc is 1120mg.total amount of thc that is available. So you simply divide 1120mg by the weight of the coconut oil in grams and will get the thc content of the oil. e.g. 1120mg/100 grams oil equals 11.2 per gram

If you are looking for a higher thc content then you just use more than the 7 grams you are currently using or decrease the amount of coconut oil.

You can also use EverClear to extract after decarbo, then evaporate the alcohol down to to whatever desired concentration you want.
To extract with EC, put your ground flower in a sandwich bag, pour in the desired amount of EC, close and let sit for 3-24 hours. Strain and you have Green Dragon.
Evaporate down to your desired concentration.
The alcohol strips out everything from the plant, including chlorophyll. Thus the green.

I've done this after BHO and nearly doubled what was pulled out using EC over butane. I could be an idiot with butane.

I've also recently made the glycerin/crock pot version and it turned out downright trippy.

.25 oz per half cup would make something far too weak to be useful here. 100-200 mg dose is preferred. If you like the oil, I would up the dose of flower to half an oz or more.

While your cannabis may be at 16% the amount you actually extract is less, as the extraction only gets a percentage depending on your herb and/or methods.
Too many variables, to make a calculation, other than what growmore said: when using plant materials and non automated processing.
The process you describe will extract 30-50%-and is supported by your actual results of previously tested oil.

I use Magicbutter machine with coconut oil and infuse 1g cannabis per ounce of solution, ie coconut oil. This at least gives me a baseline to change dosing with.
The "sludge" which is produced is still very potent and I use it in edibles (brownies) along with the coconut infused oil for a boost.

As controlled as I have it- no two batches are the same and that first "test dose" can be interesting!

As far as you making it more potent , you would have to find the saturation point of the oil- so you don't keep adding product that is not infused.
I use a glycerin tincture in place of honey etc- to boost my edibles potency that wouldn't handle the "sludge".

Thanks for the 30% to 50% guideline Weed Pharma! I have been looking for a rule-of-thumb like that. Seems like there should be a way to cook it longer to get an extra 50% or more though. The THC then seems to be pretty locked into the plant unless you use a solvent like grain alcohol as Jason suggested above. But I am using the coconut oil for making medical salve and making chocolate and am not sure how to use the alcohol to achieve my end product. I think next time I might increase the amount of weed to 3/8 of an ounce per 1/2 cup to see if it increases the concentration.

I have heard about the Magic Butter Machine. Since you are using it still Weed Pharma, it must work better, faster and be able to extract as much or more THC into the oils. Is that true? I just have see where to come up with the extra cash the the machine.

It seems that if you bought a tCheck that it would make the first dose out of the machine less of a surprise, true?

Growmore, do you have a guideline on what the saturation point is where it doesn't pay to add more weed to the oil? 1/4 ounce per 1/2 cup is the most concentrated level I have seen people use by reading these forums. Is 3/8 of an ounce per half cup better? Using 1/2 ounce, I fear the oil would be all absorbed in the weed and not able to be collected as oil.

One thing is for sure, you get will 100% decarboxylation if you bake the weed or trim in an aluminum baking pan that is covered with foil at 240F for 60 minutes (wait until the material reaches 240F before you start the timer). I verified this in 3 different infusions that were sent to SCLabs. I use a digital thermocouple to read the temperature. It takes about 30 minutes for my oven to stabilize to 240F after I put the aluminum pan in the pre-heated oven on a pizza stone. The foil covering reduces temperature fluctuations to plus or minus 3F; without foil the temperature of the weed varied plus or minus 12F to 15F in the circulating air. The pizza stone was already available and acts as a mass to help keep temps stable.

Now I need to figure out the saturation point of coconut oil get more concentrated oil, i.e., will 3/8 ounce per half cup oil be more effective than a quarter ounce...
