Indoor grow setup questions

I’m currently planning for an indoor setup and wanted to get some feedback. I’ve pretty much settled on an LEC 315w (I know, I know -- CMH) in a 3’x3’x6’ tent. I’m only planning on raising one or two plants at a time, maybe switching from soil to DWC later on down the road. Also wanted the flexibility to increase crop size somewhat without needing another light.

Questions:
- Tents -- Are there any brands to avoid (or look for, for that matter)? I’m considering an iPower, does anyone have any experience with their products? Update: Reviews have me leery, now leaning towards Vivosun.
- Lights -- Now would be the time to try and change my mind about the LEC, so feel free to speak your piece!
- Carbon filter -- Any recommendations? Haven’t done any research on these yet.

Also entertaining any other suggestions regarding indoor growing, particularly on the hardware side.

Your opinions, I want them!

Tent. I believe Gorilla is very good but no light leaks is all you need to worry about.
Lights. Just make sure you can control the heat
Carbon filter Phresh has worked best for me.

Don't skimp on the exhaust fan. Bigger is better, at least you can put a variable control on it and turn it down. But if you plan to expand having the ability to exchange more air is well worth the extra cost. Whichever fan you go with make sure that the fit to filter is good. I use a Can-fan with a Can-filter it has a snug fit. My $.02.....happy shopping

I have a vivosun setup. 24"x 48"x 60" 6" 440cmf fan with speed control and carbon filter, and a 400w dimmable ballast with an air-cooled hood.

1. The ⛺. I am happy with it. It does leak the high intensity light out at the stitching an zipper but doesn't allow low intensity light in. I haven't tested if it leaks high intensity light in.The tool pouch is helpful. The observation window is near useless on a 60" tent to make it useful it should be lowered. Plenty of ventilation ports. You can't beat the price I plan on getting the 48"x48" or if it goes on sale the 60"x60".

2. Fan carbon filter. Surprisingly quiet when hooked up to the carbon filter. Would love it if you could turn it lower but hey you can find the combo for under $150 makes for a great long term investment. Next grow I'm going to use insulated flex duct for extra stealth and cooling.

3. Ballast light and hood. I know you are going with the 315. But I had some issues with what ended up being a bad ballast. Their customer support is A-1.

For the tent: Gorilla Grow appears to be the best on the high end, while iPower seem to be the best budget tent.

For the light: The 315LEC setup is great for up to 3' x 3' grow areas. Above that, HPS/MH are better.

For the carbon filter: I am personally running an iPower 6in x 16in canister and it appears to be more than enough for my space 2ftx4ftx6.5ft (52cu.ft.) using a 390CFM inline fan.

Best of luck with your new grow!

I have two of the Phantom 315 LEC absolutely love them saving for a third. To replace my 400 HPS. They kick ass in a three-by-three I run a 40 by 40 trellis about 20 to 22 inches over the canopy plants love them.

Hey Aloner, I went to the HighTimes website when I was doing research on getting my first grow box. This is an article sponsored by SuperCloset (from whom I got my second, smaller grow box) that may be useful:

All I can tell you is, this is such an addictive, rewarding hobby that you will prolly end up wanting to grow more than one or two at a time. That's why I got the second box (financially assisted by someone I grow medical mj for): all my weed buddies are drooling and wanting me to grow more. I "shared" so much on last grow that I ran out!!! which is why I got the second box.

I have an Apollo tent, 48x48x80 on amazon, about a hundred bucks. A Sun 315 L.E.C. light and a 6" charcoal filter and fan.I am most happy with this setup. excellent quality tent and easy to control temps.Depending on how you like to grow your plants, there is room for 3 to 4 good healthy shrubs.

This is the opposite of our eyes being bigger than our stomachs: we figure out that we need MORE SPACE TO GROW!!!

Thanks everyone for your help -- the order has been placed! I went with the 315, a Vivosun 3'x3'x6', a 6" Phresh, and 6" Hyper Fan (influenced by Everest). Looks like I might be starting my second grow before my first one even reaches flowering. Can you say "hooked"?

I'm trying to figure out how I could get a perpetual harvest going between my two boxes; woudn't it be wonderful to harvest every 8 weeks!! Of course that excludes any 20-week flowering sativas...

That would tend to complicate things.

One box for a mom and some clones, the other for flowering? Or just a constantly rotating crop? Either way, sounds do-able albeit a bit of a juggling act!

Yes, a bit of a juggling act. I was thinking I could veg in the small box and transfer to the big box, but I don't think that would work, so I've been researching autos and shorter strains for the small box. It worked out pretty well keeping the girls short in the small box: they were strong growers and I switched them to flower at the end of week 3 veg. Plus they are in 3 inch net pots, and I've read that that a smaller container helps to keep a grow small. I'm just glad I have two boxes so I can play with more strains!!!!!
