ID needed

Very interesting. Caterpillars don't lay eggs and those white things sure look like eggs of some kind. The poop I've seen is always black. I'm totally stumped.

The thing that stands out, is the amount of frass ejected from the hole. This worm does that. It also does live in the New England area and has two life cycles per year. After reading the above and narrowing a few things down, I think this might be another good candidate for what you are seeing. The bad thing is, it might have tunneled out your stalk which can lead to later problems.
 
That white stuff will either be shit after they digested stem or whats left of stem after they chewed they bugs i seen do this bury deep into stem to lay eggs then worm hach suck the sugars etc then leave plant when ready i would use pyrethian its all natural plant extract wont hurt plant also i had alook at books but all on british bugs mate i still think it some sort of moth think u right let us know how u get on
 
So I attacked the little fuckers today. The more I looked the more I found. Over 20 if I had to guess. I have 3 plants outside. One had a majority of them second one had 5 or so and the third one only had one.
So here what I did. I took a syringe fill with straight NEEM oil. When I would find a nest I would clean off the white poop stuff and use the syringe to put one drop of neem oil inside the hole in the stem. After a few minutes the worm would wiggle out of the hole where I was waiting with tweezers. Killed one after the other. Hopefully I made a dent in the population.
 
Ye they will have keep squirting neem oil in until it starts pouring back out then u know u got to bottom of hole they will be burrowing deeper into plant fuckers mate has your plants showing any ill affects
 
No I'll effects so far. Minus the branch I broke when I tried sticking the needle too far in. These little bastatds are a pain in the ass!
