I Love Growing, But Trimming Not So Much

I was gifted some clones about 3 months ago, and the first plant came down today at 9 weeks 3 days in flower. Never grew Gorilla Glue or AK47 before, but I have now.

So I spent the day trimming the first of two Gorilla's. I trim tight, very tight in hopes of getting the best flavor, and that takes a little extra time and attention also. Plus, I am not a super grower, and the buds are quite small compared to my experience with other strains (a lot of them, but small).

As wonderful al growing is, trimming sucks. That is all I have to say about that.
 
We are all in the same boat my friend!! What I will add is that the way to train and trim your plants during your pre-flower and even a few weeks into flower can make your trimming and curing process a hell of a lot easier.

For example, I lollipop ALL of my plants, and I normally leave maybe only about 1 foot worth of branches, etc above my lollipop line. This enables additional airflow to the lower parts of the plant, better light penetration, and it allows the plant to focus its energy on the colas as opposed to all those little popcorn nugs your spending countless hours trimming up!

I most recently harvested a green crack plant that was topped, and lollipop just like I explained, total harvest time, with full wet trimming took me about 30-45 minutes. Pretty fast compared to what used to take me 1-2 hours per plant when they were completely untrained.

Also, the smallest buds are way easier to just do something else with some times. I've harvested lot's of those little ones before, and get sick of trimming them. If they don't go to rolling joints, and I don't need them for edibles, they make some fin Dry Ice Hash! Super easy when I followed Nebula and Serious's tutorial on it. Killer high quality smoke or vape, with out the tedious trimming of smaller bud's.
 
I LOVE to trim!! I imagine all the fun I'm going to have with the sugar leaves, which I put in paper bags and dry. I usually decarb them after that and make tincture. I just love sitting there and taking care of my colas and buds... But that's just me... It's actually one of my favorite things... It's an art...

I do actually enjoy trimming to, eventually I get tired of it, but there is also something very rewarding, retrospective, about trimming. Kind of connects us to our farming ancestry a bit. No better time to sit and enjoy product, with some good music, and maybe a beer!
 
Got to do a good job of scheduling enough time off for it this fall, darn plants are getting huge, might have my work cut out for me if I don't do anything to dum and ruin them. I remember the first time I did any trimming, was helping this grower out who had a couple HUGE plants in his greenhouse, about 8-10' tall, first time I'd really seen pot plants up close and in person, man that blew my mind! And the smell, that was the best part. Folks who don't grow miss out on the very best part, the smell of a flowering plant:) :):)
 
I don’t like trimming all that much,but with that said it’s a job,and I take pride in my work and my buds😎
 
I second the Lollipop option. Much better for the plant and for the bud sizes.
Remove all the growth on the lower half, and you get monster colas up top.
 
I agree that training/defoliation- (especially in flower), can make a huge difference on thr amount of time spent preparing the buds for drying/curing.

Making the buds look dispensary like- is a lesson in futility, with no added value for those who grow for themselves.
The dispensaries simply use the popcorn buds for rolled joints, etc.

I'm fortunate to have a g/f that trims, but today was the first time - I have trimmed! (she's working, lol)
 
Well, I hope they end up decent, and I don't raise me a bunch of mold like I did my first grow.
I am only flowering 5 plants for bud this fall, out of my legal 6 in flower. They never done did tell me what size I can have them!
 
I agree why does one need as they say "bag appeal" when growing for oneself. Trim it close as you smoke it also makes for better curing.
 
I use a bud spinner I just cut the bud off stem into a bud spinner with all leafs attached and spin it to where I want it , I have done a small plant in half hour and a big plant in an hour or so no where near as long as trimming on the stem ,
 
This is my first harvest using the Spin Pro. Very pleased and saving me hours of work. Might not be as pretty as carefully hand trimmed bud...but its just for me and looks fine....I really care how it smokes.
 
Man, I just looked it up on Amazon, and not as crazy expensive as I always assumed they would be.
$232.36 with free shipping. Did you just get the manual kind that looks like a giant salad spinner?

Might have to seriously think about buying one, really would pay for itself really fast, considering time spent when I also have a lot of work on my schedule to get done. Not like you couldn't still trim your very nicest buds by hand still, if you wanted those as purty as they deserve to be.
