hydroponics watering schedule

Hi, I am a newbie who has been growing in soil and now want to turn to hydroponics. I don't understand when and for how long you water. Does water run over the roots at all times? Please forgive my ignorance here, and I am grateful for any and all help that you might give.

Here I found this and several more tutorials on GWE. If I am not mistaken SiriusFourside does hydro, if his tutorials are as good as @NebulaHaze's (I'm sure they are)👍🏻 just read and follow their directions and you certainly won't go wrong!
