How to train a mother

First time I have kept a plant in veg with the intent of taking clones.... but im finding it hard to get good stretch between nodes.
have raised from seed, sitting under HLG 4k board.
how can I encourage vertical growth?

Best to keep you moms small for long term care. Looks to me like you have plenty of clones to take now. Checkout this article, I prefer to keep moms as houseplants but this read will put into perspective how to care for moms. You don’t want to grow a tree lol

So I moved my light closer (17") and have the growth stretch I was looking for. I had lifted the light to 20" thinking they would 'reach for it'.... just slowed it down.
be a week or so before cuttings.

Moms can be a total pain in the ass unless you really need them such as in commercial grows or you've found a real unicorn of a plant. I keep mine in coco in three gallon fabric pots to limit their size. They are under a T5 fluorescent panel and I still have to keep trimming every three or four weeks. The guys at the grow shop don't mind taking my extra rooted clones though. None of the moms I've got are all that precious but I've got a Purple Haze which I hate running out of, new favorites Laughing Buddha and Acapulco Gold and the tall pheno of Black Widow. I'm considering flowering them all out to conserve resources because my seed bank is overflowing but my patience is not.

I only have a few seeds of this strain left, and acquired via a Male in the room so not certified. It is apparently Bruce Banner and I grew one last summer outdoors and it was outstanding in every way.
will unfortunately compost bin unwanted cuttings as we are still under the radar here.
great site and good reading materials, I am self teaching so this has become a valuable resource to me.

Took 6 good looking sprouts on Sunday. Looking good to me so far (see my new post)
decided to 'top' the leading ends of the main laterals and low and behold I am getting 3 or 4 new points. This plant is a bit of a mutant aye, she went 1, 3, 7, 9 fingers.... some leaves are now 11 fingers and the density of new growth is scaring me lol
