How to grow weed at home in secret (advice)

This isn't me. I am lucky enough to live in a household of weed lovers. I was looking for your advice.

A friend of a friend recently retired and wants to grow weed. He was buying Delta THC online but learned that's going to be illegal soon, so he figured it was time to get truly self-sufficient and grow his own. He lives in a place where he can get a medical card to legally grow, but he's afraid if he starts growing weed, his wife will tell all the neighbors about it. Apparently she can't keep a secret, and isn't particularly keen on weed either. Her niece smokes a ton of weed and she hates that.

So he's trying to put together a grow in his garage or attic that's a secret from her. Maybe using a space bucket or hidden cubby somewhere.

But I'm telling him that he's not going to be able to grow very much weed out of a space bucket. If he wants to be able to grow significant weed, he's going to at least need a small tent or something like that. And also, it's just never a good idea to grow in a household where you're trying to keep it a secret from another member of the household.

I always thought of "stealth growing" as being a secret from your neighbors, not your household.

I'm just curious what you all think about that. Are any of you growing where you're afraid someone in the house might find out, or are all you growers living in weed-friendly households?
 
I’m lucky, my wife wanted me to grow weed when it became legal in our state. I can’t keep secrets or try to hide things from my wife besides after over 40 years together I think it would be like cheating on our relationship. I covered all the bases. When it became legal in our state I went all in and purchase my rec. permit every year from the state and follow the law it Permits 6 non flowering plants/6 flowering and 6 clones under 14”.. honestly to get 6 plants in each category would take some serious organizing on my part. I’m happy with 6 plants and a couple clones. I sleep good a night without worrying about long arm of the law showing up at my door. If it is legal where he lives he needs to have a talk with the wife and get on the same page. If he starts growing the smell will give him up. My 10 cents worth..😎
But if he decides to grow outside he might pull it off, might have to try some Duck foot from Dutch passion.

It's impossible to keep it from household members. Funny though for 5 years I grew outside, wife was totally paranoid neighbors would notice. Never did, my teenage kids would cut the grass around it and never noticed.
But moving to an inside tent, after the initial setup no no questions ever again, even during the drying phase, smells like potpourri

By not telling his wife, your friend is flat out threatening his relationship. Mature adults don't pull teenage lies on their spouses. He will for sure get caught.
Now, my wife is perfectly okay with my grows, so I cannot offer experienced advice. I might start with, "I can't buy delta 8 anymore, and it really helps with my . . . . I want to get a medical card and legally grow a plant or two in the (location). Please support my decision as we have supported one another over the years... And, I promise not to give any to (niece) unless we discuss it."
 
What Allotrope said. There is no way you are going to complete a grow with out everyone in the house knowing about it. Even if you keep it a secret for a while, when the dank starts they will know, never mind explaining why the power bill tripled. Then you are caught being dishonest with your family. Find a mutually agreeable solution.
