How Much Water for 5-Gallon Buckets?

Just transplanted some 6-and-a-half-week-old plants from 1-gal to 5-gallon buckets, using Roots Organic soil in both. Plants are 16 inches high, kept at an average of 68 degrees and 30% humidity. (Altitude is 6500 feet.) The strain is a cross between Burkle and Nina Limone.

How would you water them?

Ive been told no matter the size of the pot water till 20% runs off then i let dry out for 2/3days stick your finger in the soil when you need to check if its moist still wait a little longer till dry and repeat. My plants are in 3gal pots and i water every 3rd day which averages out to about 2xs a week.

It takes 1/4 of pot size to reach minimul runoff.

So 1.25 gallons will hit runoff so for a sufficient amount I would water with 1.5 gallons each. Wait for them to be light again to water again.

If they are a little small for the pot size I wouldnt water until full runoff until they fill to the pot edges. Give them just enough around the root zone to get them wet without drowning.

Couldnt have said it better urbz you really know your stuff ive learned a handful of things today and from you personally lol. Great info i never actually measured the amount bc i have multiple plants so i fill the watering can and do it by feel but i love numbers ill keep that bit of info in the bank. As well i agree with urbz on the younger plants bigger pots too def use less water then a fuller more devloped plant or risk drowing them. You'll beable to see if your overwatering though the leaves will be droopy and hanging down but just right and theyll be up like solar panels.

In my 5 gallons 1 gallon of water generally does the trick that would let a small percent maybe 10% of runoff.

If you are using Roots Organic Original- you do not want a run off of 10-20% as it would leach the nutrients out of the soil mixture.
I water just until the holes get wet or start to drain a bit- It usually takes about 3 liters, if you are letting it dry out completely.
