SOIL How do i grow effectively in a TINY space?

Olainfarm

New member
Hello! Recently started this cool hobby, and am just now beginning my first grow. For reasons of stealth, i picked my tiny little closet to grow in, but after finishing my setup, I am worried about space constraints - as you can see in the picture, its less than 30cm from light to soil.
I picked a 1gal pot, and am already germinating cookies and cream auto from MSNL. In terms of lighting i have 4 24W full-spectrum grow lights i got from a hardware store. Growing in peat-based soil, 20% perlite and 10% worm castings.
I would be really thankful if you guys could give me some tips on keeping the plant as small as physically possible, whether it be intensive training or anything else.

Yeah, do LST/HST like mainlining, an scrog, fluxing or something like that.
What i want to say, is just train ur plant to be small (flat canopy, bend stems down..)
Iam not experienced grower, but 30cm space sounds hardcore for me, master control our plant, and it’s possible x)

With peat I see PH issues in their future
The lights will be to close and not strong enuf

I am on the same thinking here. You can get the peat straight throughout the grow with proper care, but the light is weak. Maybe it being close and weak will work Rwise? I am also wondering about your air circulation/ventilation. Do you have anything for that Olainfarm ? You mentioned stealth also, are you prepped for the stanky stank of growing weed? Best of luck!

Growing in a small space has its challenges but I think its a great way to learn how to control the plants. Space bucket is a great idea, I think you would do better with 4 or more CFL's. I have seen some pretty nice buds grown under CFL,s. Not sure why but low wattage leds like your planning will give you larffey buds and I have seens some nice dense. I dont know why first time growers are directed towards autos, in my experience they are harder to grow that photoperiods. They have come a long way in the last 20 years though.

Is there ventilation in there? you're going to need it and a filter if stealth is the goal. Maybe a shorter pot and better lights.

I don't think its possible.....well, maybe but it'll be an amazing feat if accomplished. By your picture with the tape measure, you have, give or take 20cm from soil to bottom of lights...that's not quite 8 inches. You didn't specify weather it is a photo or auto flower? Either way, that will be a challenge. Sounds like a spin-off to the solo cup challenge lol. I'm not even gonna try this one.

Anything is possible, solo cup grow, tying in knots in plants, why not a micro grow. These things are done as a challenge just because we can. You have to ask yourself is this grow going to be worth the rewards for the effort that needs to be put into it. Go larger if you are able. If not, get ready for some serious plant training.

Sorry, i forgot to mention the strain - im growing Cookies and Cream auto from MSNL. The packaging on the peat soil said it was Ph 6.2-7.2, i will test it once i get the first runoff. Lighting is defo an issue, and i will be upgrading later. Currently its okay for growing the little seedling it seems, so i will take these problems as they come. In terms of ventilation i have 2 high static Pc case fans screwed in at the back and an intake at the bottom. I will try to DIY a carbon filter over those fans when flower comes around. Thank your for the good wishes!

I have 2 pc case fans at the top and an intake at the bottom hehe. I will try DIYing a filter once it becomes necessary.

You are correct, its an auto, Cookies and Cream. I went for auto because i didnt want to bother with light schedules and the light-proofing the closet would have been nearly impossible. I saw a lot of mention of CFLs, i will consider getting those. my only concern was heat because of the super tiny space. The current plan for training is LST as much as possible and top it if its growing healthy. I will update how i am doing as it grows, it just popped out today and looks healthy :D.

If the air isn't exchanged constantly they will grow very slow and flower at a strange pace. Air movement is very important to cannabis. The blurpal light is a dead giveaway to stealth growing. LED ful spectrum and done.

Who are you hiding this from? If light can get in, light will get out and as Dirty Mike mentioned the blurpal light is hard to hide

I thought I had small grow with my 3 ft smurf tent but you have maybe 1 ft to work with. The lights make a huge difference in how much they will want to stretch. Perhaps a HD CFL would give better light and give you a few more inches. You even relocate ballast outside of tent for heat issue.

You will have top them early and tie them down so they grow flat. Heat is a big issue in small places, I have battled with it for a few years but finally resolved my heat issue this year. It takes a lot of cool air intake to cool a hot room down especially one with a very low ceiling.

Good Luck
