How close should lights be to new seedlings

One of the variables that comes into play in this scenario is the fact that LED lights can vary so widely between different models and manufacturers. Also some spectrums of light are still fairly experimental as far as plant growth goes.
To make a long story short, I would recommend to ask someone that is more familiar with that particular model of light that you have. Possibly the manufacturer or Someone with experience in that particular brand and or model will probably be your best bet.

I would say, as far as Your hand isn't burning and feel comfortable, but since u are using LED, u should specify what kind of LED you have? True watts? Spectrum? Full? Veg? Flowering? For growing usually LED are hanged something about 50cm from tops and then need to check how plant reacts everyday. If u see stretching need get lower, if curling leaves up get LED higher. There is no instructions, so You just need to know basics and then find your way

Do NOT follow the common wisdom (heat) or you will burn your seedling-as LED have a much greater penetration than others.
I put the seedling @ 30-35" as soon as it sprouts and then by the end of 1 week they are at 24".
Moving a few inches every couple of days. UFO 150w LED was the last one, but have done the same with Marshydro300w. (<- I fried the first plant I tried by putting it too close, too soon-there is no rush)

I use 54Watt T5 Fluorescent Bulbs. 6400k for veg. I made a rectangular cardboard frame covered on inside with first aluminum foil (as seen in picture), later changed foil to mylar.. Lights put off barely any heat, so I kept them about 6 inches above seedlings. You can see part of the light fixture in picture Plants grew so fast that hubby was raising fixtures at least twice a week.
Seedlings were 18 days old in this picture.

Just an FYI for HID people with digital ballasts. Don't dim your bulbs. They're meant to operate at a certain voltage/temperature and by dimming, you lose the full spectrum the bulb is capable of. You're better off raising your lights.
Also, just remember, seedlings in nature don't get the benefit of low light to start. They get blasted by the sun, wind, rain, cold just like everything else. While I think you should be gentle, at the same time if you coddle your plants too much, they won't be as tough IMO.
Personally, I harden them off by keeping my light 3 to 4 times higher than normal and drop the light gradually every day for a week. By the end of the week I'm at optimal height. Works for me anyway.

Thank you for the information I really appreciate it I do have a few LED lights -2- Mars Hydro reflector 144 - -2-Mars Hydro 300 watts and a400Watt. . HPS I'm using the marshydro reflector 144 on veg and I have the light 3 feet away I don't want to hurt the seedlings thy so small ,, it's only been 7 days but I'm not seen them get any bigger no stretch or nothing that's I asked how far do I put the lights but at the same time it could be cuz thy r autos so maybe thy grow slow but I'm new I don't know I'm here asking for help and I think this is the best place to get it and I give lots of thanks to you all for responding to me
T5 6400 HO - 3" to 5" - If it feels hot on the back of your hand after holding it there for 30+ seconds, the light is too close. LEDs if too close, could bleach out your leaves and buds if too close, and remember to check the footprint of your grow space, as light that is cast out too far can be wasted light. There have been times where the breeder states medium height, and we will get one of those weird phenos and the plants will be nearly 5+ foot tall and resting on our LED lens. Panic sets in... but things have turned out ok.

I usually veg with CFLs they work great for me but this LED light i have has a veg button and a bloom button so I figured I would try it out but I don't want to bleach my pants ,,my first time using LED lights ,, thank you so much for taking the time to help me out i really appreciate it
