I have been researching ways to kill the Borg I have found that if you hang a hot shot no pest strip in.grow when not in flower that the gasses it gives off will kill them all! After done rinse plant well.i don't know how true this is but I like the idea of killing them all at once.has any one tried this and if so is it safe?
 
I heard that Hot Shot No Pest Strips is bad news for pets and people in confined places like grow rooms. Not good for indoors. The best way to kill them is to prevent them. SPINOSAD is the magic bullet.

I read about the strips too... very poisonous. Would not recommend it.

Ive been fighting the Borg for about 3 months now. I tried azamax, sm90, and spinosad with limited success. Knock on wood, I haven't seen a mite in over a week. I don't know if it was my persistence or the fact that it got cold the last 2 weeks. When my furnace is constantly cranking out dry heat, the humidity drops in my tents to 20-30%. I don't think they liked it.

Ive heard of people wrapping a blanket around their pot to keep the roots warm and putting the plant outside in the cold for several hours to kill the mites. It's a long shot at best. I've also heard that capsaicin mixed with water works really well. I never tried it, just trying to give you some ideas.

Co2 to1500 - 2000 ppm for three hours wait three days repeate. Wait three more days repeat. After the first treatment be sure you do not have ants near.
 
NoPest Strips emit a vapor that kills spider mites, but definitely don't use them if you will be breathing air from your grow room as the vapor they give off is toxic to humans and other mammals. These are only suitable if you're growing somewhere that is NOT your living space, but can be an effective way to get rid of spider mites :) As you said, you don't want to use it in the flowering stage so it doesn't get on your buds!

Just curious, have you tried Mighty Wash? You use it with a mister and get the leaves top and bottom, sort of like with Azamaz. I've heard some growers have good luck with it, and it's made with plant extracts and other natural stuff so you don't have to worry about it hurting people or buds.

Another one I've heard that does okay is Essentria IC3, which is an organic mix of various horticultural oils. It's originally meant for bed bugs but also can be good for spider mites. This one only stays effective on the plant for about a day, so you would either want to use it in addition to something else unless you want to spray daily. But it's another one that doesn't have any chemicals and can be something to try if they come back!

You may already have some of this, but sprinkling diatomaceous earth around the grow space and on your soil can also help with prevention :) It's made of diatom (ancient algae) fossils that are sharp on a microscopic level, and although it's completely harmless to people and animals (you can even eat it), when soft larva walk over it their abdominals get shredded!
 
I haven't tried mighty wash but I certainly will get some if they keep coming back. I'm very strapped for cash with it being the holidays. Maybe santa will bring me some :p

Thanks for the advice. I was moments away from buying predator mites but my uncle talked me out of it. Why get hundreds of predators for a dozen mites? I would like to watch them devour a spider mite under magnification :)
 
Thank you all for your help I've been using a mix of alc. and water over the past week or so it's keeping them at bay seems to be working (kills on contact). If I see one or more I spray the plant I also put sand down on top of soil. Keep you posted. This is war! :mad:
 
Hay RN I've been using rubbing alc.and water 9 to 1 in sprayer no harm to plant and kills on contact if tou see them spray them.
