HID longevity

I have a question for the growers who use HID's. I know I've been told that a light is "good" for 2 grows. How much truth is there in that? How much does a light actually weaken in strength after that period of time? I was planning on using mine for the 2 grows and veg with them 1 more time then switch at flower. Has anyone used their's for longer and noticed any negitive side effects? Not trying to be cheap was just wondering how much life there actually is in a bulb? Thanks for reading

Thats a great question. I use a 1000watt mh and a super hps..both from eye hortilux. I was wondering the same thing so i bought a lux meter for 35$ (the 1 nebula recommends) ... This is my 3rd grow on these bulbs with no noticeable loss of lux yet. Bulbs are obviously expensive so i like this new way...hope this helps. Good luck
 
I use the same hortilux hps bulb but I use it for both veg and flower. And yes that does help, I'm going to purchase a lux meter. I have a few apps on my phone but I don't trust them. Just nearing the finish on my second grow with it
 
The cheap bulbs that cost around $20 need to be replaced every grow or two. The more expensive ones last much longer. Digilux guarantees 1 year of use with no light degradation. They warrantee their product and will replace a bulb free if it doesn’t last a year before degrading.
 
I change my hps light once a year but I watch it using my lux meter, to see if there is degradation, thing is you have to measure from the same distance to see if there is a difference
