Help! Broken branch. First time grower.

Hi everyone. I’m a first time grower and have just snapped a branch. The plants are 3 weeks above ground today and have been quadlined. I snapped a branch on one today whilst LST. I have supported the branch the best I can from underneath. Do you guys think this branch will heal or should I try to make a splint of some sort for it? Maybe out of a drinking straw or something? I’m probably being brave, stupid or possibly both trying quadlinig for my first grow! Many thanks in advance for any advice give

Mine usually survive, keep it supported. It should grow a big knuckle and keep on going.

Thanks Ragweed for your speedy response. I was quite upset when it happened. I think I have learnt a lesson from this. The plants were almost ready for their next watering and were possibly not as flexible as when they have just been watered? I think I need to do my training shortly after watering? Learning new things everyday..sometimes the hard way!

You don't necessarily have to water to make the branches more bendable. My advice is start training them earlier, while the branches are green and flimsy. That will help prevent another accidental break in the future.

Any time. I slack on my training quite a bit too. I've learned it's easier when they're green but that doesn't mean I always do it early enough. Broken a few branches on some grows, snapped the trunk right down the middle trying to stretch out my manifold a couple times too. I actually have one in flower right now that I was supercropping and must not have softened it up enough cause it snapped halfway through. It's still growing though, even hanging on by a thread so to speak.

I’ve been waiting for something to happen. Things had been running too smoothly up until now. I think I was worried to do it too early to be honest. Thought I would be more likely to break the small fragile limbs. What you say makes complete sense though..start on them before they toughen up. I’m so glad I’ve joined this Forum. Next thing for me is to learn how to post photos that aren’t sideways.

Here's a few pictures of the one I mentioned before. It's in flower and still growing but barely hanging on. It's healing itself and that spot will be a knuckle in a week or 2. Hopefully you can see it, the light is pretty bright and it's pretty much stuck where it's at.

Yep. I can see it. This gives me hope that mine will be ok. It’s taken me a day to get over it. Not happy with myself yesterday. We live and learn. Thanks again.

It’s been 4 days since the broken branch incident. What a recovery! Poked my head in today to see how the branch was doing and it’s as strong as it was before my clumsiness occurred. It’s got a slight war wound but I’m able to start LST it again. Also when I was examining the branch I noticed the first signs of pistols. I’m quite excited about this. This is my first grow and quite an interesting time for me.

Nice. Congrats on the pistils! Don't get anxious and switch them yet, let them get a little size to them first. I promise you won't be disappointed. I was actually just looking at mine too for another post and admiring the quadline cause it really does make it look nice. Normally I don't but this one I topped twice.

Apologies..I’ve just realised that I never mentioned anywhere on this post that these plants are auto flowers. You’re probably thinking I’m a bit mad now, quadlining auto’s for my first grow? I’m going to keep training them a little bit more to make them a bit wider then let them do there thing. I’m going to lay of the bloom nutes for another week. Just so I’ve got some more vertical growth. Tell me please if any of this sounds wrong/crazy/stupid etc. Thanks.

I've never grown autos but I would assume feed like normal. If they start changing, change the feed ratios.

That does look good being topped twice. I’d imagine that’s going to fill in a beauty.
I’ve got some Cindy 99 Regular seeds to try out at some point. Thought I'd try auto’s for my first attempt. Less time I’ve wasted if it all goes tits up for any reason?
