Have a Little Slime in 1st DWC

Yes, after I read what DingusKhan wrote above. Hydroguard puts in the GOOD bacteria to elminate the bad bacteria. I never knew that healthy proteins in hydroponics were slimey, but welcome to my crib!!!!
 
If you're using Hydroguard in DWC you don't want to use H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) because it will kill your good bacteria that you've added. The point of Hydroguard is to grow a colony of bacteria that will outcompete the "bad" microorganisms that cause root rot, so you want to help your bacteria grow.

As far as seeing a little slime, if the water smells fresh and roots look completely white, I wouldn't worry about it. I would only worry if the roots or the plants themselves look unhealthy :)
 
Thanks Nebula, that may be why the Hydroguard did not work for me, I was also using H2O2 as well to git rid of the slime! Also, some one in the forum mentioned that they kept their Hydroguard in the refrigerator. Is that necessary to keep it viable?
 
I personally don't. I'd hope Botanicare would say that on the bottle if true! I just emailed them to ask and I'll update here. They're usually really responsive :)
 
It DOES say on the bottle to keep in cool, dry place. I always keep it in the fridge.

As I wrote somewhere else on this forum, when my algae got really bad, there was no way the Hydroguard was going to overcome it. So instead of using Hydroguard (beneficial bacteria), I used Grapefruit Seed Extract to kill the algae. It worked quite well. Plus, I could have nutes in there with it.

Just in case anyone is interested, this is what Botanicare had to say about it:

"The organism in Hydroguard is pretty tough and will essentially go dormant when the conditions are not right for colonization. As long as the bottle is kept out of direct light and more or less at room temperature it will be fine. Storing it in the fridge probably won’t impact the Bacillus very much in any way. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or concerns."
 
Thanks for looking that up, Nebula!! When it said store in a cool, dry place, I assumed it meant the fridge. Glad to know I don't have to keep it that cold.
