First dab was directly from the double boiler to check for excess ethanol sizzle and cough. There was no sizzle and no cough so the plate came off the heat and went to room temperature. It sat for a day before transfer to see if it would settle the carbonation. It took another bit in the final jars before settling.
Maaan... that curing thing is a question. I mean, is it possible to stop curing without freezing? Rosin is heat pressed through a filter but cold cured. I've seen distillate temperatures can go over 400°. Live resin is pretty much sub-zero throughout the process. Hash is heat pressed, unfiltered. What of those things cure and why do they or do they not cure in their extracted form?
Marijuana does not produce THC, it produces THC-A, yeah? It is not until heat and/or time are applied to the THC-A that it becomes active. Does THC-A cure but not THC? Or say whatever compounds cure? Does heat or cold stop curing? Do solvents?
I guess time is going to tell me if this stuff gets better with age. With all my ginger I am going to store at least a gram in the fridge for a month and a gram in a cupboard to see if anything changes. It's me against my willpower.
 
On curing, the slower the lower the temps and oxygen is needed to cure. When we talk about curing bud we are looking at breaking down compounds in the bud we smoke, such as the different types of chlorophyll that are really disgusting to smoke.

There are heaps of other compounds present that curing will have an effect on including THC & other cannabinoids, cannabinols and other cannawhatsamcallits. I've read a few papers on it but none that answer your question and none that give a run down of what exactly the curing does to all the compounds.

I'd also like to see more research on allowing the bud to ferment somewhat, I think that's what it's called. I've tried that in small quantities where anaerobic activity took place before jarring, I did it as part of the drying when it was still wet and the effects were vastly different and desirable but still quite harsh to smoke. I did it to not strong sativa.
 
Natural curing. Just a plain-ol' bud sitting in a jar, naturally curing. Dry sift trichomes. Unheated. Uncooled. Unstripped.
Extracts are unnatural. From -100° to 400°+ and Ethanol and all the other -tanes. What stops curing? Is there a point where the little trichome says, 'Well, that about does it for me! I'm cured. Can't get no more cured than the cured I am. Thanks for the comfortable environment.'

If I want something portable, I’ll throw that rosin into Boutiq carts since they hit smooth and don’t mess with the terps too much. Water hash is awesome too, but I hate dealing with all the drying time.

Missed this originally, but for me, I don’t ever grind for IWH, in fact I use very little ice just enough to keep the water cold, all agitation is gentle, green is the enemy. 220 is a toss bag and 120, 78, 45 are my usual pull bags, sometimes 25 as well if I had to harvest early. Water is used once then discarded, I have two 6gallon jugs that are left outside to chill and are refilled during the runs. The bags capture all the trichomes I care about as it is poured through.

I only make hash one time a year and do so in the winter, free refrigeration you know. This year the source was from one outdoor plant, since I’m limited for space only bud was processed by cutting them to about 3/8” pieces then frozen fresh (-20c), not compressed, weight total was approximately 5lbs.

About 3 months forward yield washed out to about 8oz, most was worked by drying, freezing, micro-planing, drying, heat pressing, then rolled into 16g temple balls. As I was rolling the last one and I guess I got a little over zealous and it completely devolved in my hands. I can say that it is something you don’t ever want to have to deal with, had to clean up with alcohol but will recover that mistake during a later alcohol extraction run.

Thanks for that Phlash. I'd smoke your hash.
Nug size was an issue in this run. Had some that were half as big as my computer mouse. Not many smaller than large marbles.
Also, too much agitation. I'm looking at your paddle. That's exactly the sort of thing I want to consider for my next IWH.
If you missed this, originally, go back to my post in this thread number 124 to see what I do with my IWH. What's missing is that I'm using straight 220 hash. In the end, there's no need to screen any further.

It’s a stainless steel crab boil paddle, yeah I find breaking down the buds help in the whole process. The link you posted went back to 2016 and didn’t seem to have any posts by you, perhaps a different link?
 
I can see your confusion. I typed a hashtag and the number 124. That, apparently, is some sort of programming code.

Your process is interesting especially in how it causes the off gassing when the distillate is agitated. How long was it exposed to the double boiler heat for the evaporation process? Oh and thanks for the link update
 
Can't tell you time wise because I did different things.
Double boiler using a mason jar took too long, so I poured everything into a Pyrex pie plate and basically went Jedi mind trick to guess when it was done...ish.
Page 7 has more pictures of my first attempt.

Good reads, really like all the details. for your green leeching if you use DI/Etoh wash to get your wash temps down below -40 for your initial extract that will help inhibit the chlorophyll pull and filtering while still at those temps any lipids and waxes should be left behind as well.
 
Dewaxing has been and still is my goal in all this: I want the cleanest thing I can make in terms of removing plant matter. Before this, I was making BHO. Everything about it made me uncomfortable, no matter how clean and purged I thought everything was. Plant matter free-ish, yes, but the idea of residual butane finally got to me. If I inhale residual ethanol, I am unconcerned.
Funny about that green color wash. It browned like the chlorophyl was degrading in the jar. This time, there was no green at all. I'm not sure if there was a difference in the amount of leaf still left on the buds, but if there was, I would say this time had more leaf and would have been greener.
 
Yeah I agree with you, I’ve never liked the thought of the residuals, hence why I’ve stayed with ethanol for extract.

Keeping everything as cold as possible and limiting wash time will definitely aid in limiting contaminants. As for the color chlorophyll will break down into pheophytn letting the color from carotene and anthocyanins to come thru, the effect helps with the color but not any of the harshness. To accelerate the transformation if it’s only color you are concerned with you can put the jar of finished wash in your grow tent for 15-20 min if your lights have a uv component or in the direct sun and the green should fade away..
 
Did an interesting thing.
Instead of using my bubble bags to make IWH, I made dry sift.
5-gallon bag in a 5-gallon bucket lined with parchment paper so I didn't have to scrape the bucket. Since I don't have gloves, I put 1-gallon bubble bags on my hands. Worked like a charm. Sat in front of the TV with the bucket between my legs and got to rubbin'.
But I might have made lemon hash crack. This is the same dope I washed with baking soda and lemon juice. A little finger heat and pressure made this stuff hard. I can never get kief to press like this with my fingers.
Looks like I'm done making IWH. Doing this dry is way less work, nigh on zero mess, and the kief is ready for use right away.
