HELP! Harvest time?

Hello,

I am growing for the first time. Is this plant ready to harvest? I noticed some of the flowers turned brown, as shown in two of the pictures. Am I too late? What's happening? Any help appreciated. I started this from seed in the middle of September I believe.

Not close to harvest yet. The brown buds are more than likely from caterpillars that hatch and eat their way into the bud. (Budworm) Moths will come along, lay a single egg, usually on the topmost buds, and when it hatches it will burrow into the bud, effectively killing that bud and then it moves on to the next.. For those of us that grow outdoors they are an absolute menace. If you clip a bud off and carefully peel it apart chances are good you'll find a very small green caterpillar inside. I designed and built myself a PVC and mosquito netting tent to keep moths at bay that will be getting its first trial test this season. The caterpillars are more active in the cool of the early evening so that's a good time to methodically check your plants.

Damn! I did see a caterpillar on there the other day. Oh well.. does that mean that whole bud is ruined? Or can I just cut off that brown part? Also when do you think harvest time will be?

No the whole bud is not ruined, do dig out the dead stuff and bug/worm poo, watch for bud rot.
