Hard water vs soft water

Good morning all. We have a water softener in our home for the obvious reasons, but the water in Omaha has a special funk to it so I filter it for drinking, ice, coffee, etc. Outside faucets are hard water. Question is, what do my plants think about this? Someone enlighten me please.

You need to adjust Ph. I am not very experienced about water issues but as long as you keep the ph correct you'll not have problem.

Good question! We have a water softener hooked to hot water only, so when cooking or brewing coffee, I always start with cold water. We have a well. My husband insisted we use spring water though for plants, and after I accumulated about 12 gallon bottles, I would make a weekly run to the RO machine at our local grocery. 30 cents a gallon. Much cheaper than continuing to buy spring water. Our plants loved the RO water, it was also the perfect pH.

Catch your rainwater and use it. Best water for any plant. I bet in Nebraska you could save enough rainwater to use it all year.

I would love to have a rain barrel setup at my house. the problem is, unless you use immediately after catching it can become stagnant. The rain barrel setups have some system build in to prevent that from happening. My houseplants love rainwater.

Who cares if the water barrel smells, as long as its good water.(now where did I get that idea?)

Desertdan, Thanks for the bounce back. I would guess your desert air is nice and clean, but you outta see what a light rain does to a black car here. lotsa agri. dust in the air.Who knows what else.

I'm one of those lucky stiffs that has perfect PH coming right out of my well. 6.5ph. I fill a plastic garbage can so that I don't have to putt the ice cold water out of the faucet on my plants.
