Does the sex of rootstock matter? More specifically can a female scion be grafted onto male rootstock and still maintain all female characteristics? What are the risks if any?

Thank you very much. 1st attempt ever. A male reared it's ugly head and I was about to destroy it. Timing is real bad but others are ready so I thought what the hell. Give it a try. If it works it will make up for some lost time.
