Good soil or not

Hey guys new to this site and new member with first time grow questions I have coming within the next 3 to 6 days my go box because my plants are in desperate need of nutrients I have a grow closet and it's time to move them to the larger pots which rises another question I know people suggest 5 gallon bucket's but I have A butt load of 4 gallon buckets is that one extra gallon really going to be missed or am I OK to use 4gl buckets??
now question two I believe the hype about miracle Gro been top notch stuff but since I've been on GWE for the last week and a half and it seems like I spend all my awake Time on the site every time I turn around I find something new it's awesome but gettingto the subject at hand my soil I couldn't find that frog stuff soil and a friend of mine picked up five bags of natures care organic raised bed soil when she got it home and I went to pick it up from her I noticed on the back that in Georgia this product is formulated from one of the products being poultry litter and how ironic I manage a poultry farm so I know about how good but very easy it is to burn anything that you plant if you put too much of it in I noticed on here that it has total nitrogen 0.12% in it is that going to hurt me in the long run and can anyone tell me how they ever used it this soil for there grow appreciate the time reading this and any response helpful advice would be greatly appreciated happy growing

A 4 gallon pot will not grow as big of plant then a 5 gallon before it gets root bound which is a problem that causes slow and stunted growth for the rest of the plants life.as far as soil goes miracle grow soils are not the hot ticket! Natures care I have no exp. with but if it has a time release fertilizer personally I wouldn't use either,with that being said remember in soil its far easier to add certain minerals then remove.As per the GWE web site the plant like and flourish with nitrogen in veg but hurts in flowering if it gets too high!! PH tells you a lot check it daily till you find out what gets and needs what.I use ff ocean forest and can do the whole grow with no extra nutes but then your yield isn't as good.Hope this helps good luck

Good advice from cptcaveman. There are some growers that use less than 5 gal containers and some that use even bigger. Part of it depends on how big you want the plant to get before flipping the switch to flower, because it will double or maybe even triple in size.

As far as the soil, I'm not sure. We bought a bag of soil, and realized later that it had poultry litter in it. Two of our plants got transferred from their solo cups into this soil in 2 gallon buckets. It did not hurt the plants at all. In fact, one of these plants was the earliest ones to show its sex.

We thought two gallon buckets would be big enough but they very quickly became rootbound and we bought 5 gal buckets to transfer. They never became rootbound in the bigger pots. If you have 4 gallon I would go ahead and use them. Might have to transplant to bigger, but then again maybe not. Strain of plant plays a part too.
