I have a group of four plants that I'm letting run out with no training at all just to see what happens and to gauge how much benefit I'm getting from all the effort put into training. Gotta say these are looking like they're off to the races already. Germinated from seed 31 days ago.

Hmmmm.... complex question where I'm concerned. I currently have 19 different strains, and running a wide variety of lighting from HPS (1000's and 600's), CMH (315's and 630's) and about a dozen different kinds of LED fixtures (everything from a big one I built myself to ForeverGreen, California Lightworks, Scynce, GrowFlux, Optic, Pacific Lighting Concepts, Autocobs from cobshop.net, BIOS, and a few others).
The tall ones that I have left untrained are C4 from FastBuds under 315 CMH fixture. The pics of the trained ladies are a Lemon AK under a ForeverGreen Panel, Blue Dream under a 1K MH/HPS, and Mexican Airlines under an HLG panel.

Potted indeed. At least that's the theory. I'm pretty impressed with the production on those that I'm not training though, and they are marching forward towards harvest at a faster rate than other plants of the same strain that are getting LST. As an experiment it's making me wonder. If those plants reach harvest before those that I'm training it will be a mathematical calculation to determine which method will produce more for a given square footage over a full year. Since the untrained plants take up so much less real estate I could pack them in closer.... more plants, less time to harvest (potentially)... I may very well find out that the training has a negative impact on production where autoflowers in a commercial environment is concerned.

The California Lightworks 1100 is one damn impressive light. Node spacing on the plants under it is remarkable. Very, very, very dense plants. The light penetrates deeply. It is, unfortunately, a very expensive fixture. It does however create a significant amount of heat, and despite being an LED fixture it raises the temp in a tent quite a lot - on par with a 600W HPS in terms of heat production, and there's no way to vent it as I have the 1000W HPS that I am using as a control. I have the version with the UV bars on the side and haven't run those yet as the plants under it are just entering flower.
The CMH lights I have running are impressing the hell out of me as well. In particular I have a large double-ended 630 CMH that the plants really, really love. The spread on the fixture is amazing. It's actually slightly higher ppfd at the edges of a 4x4 area than in the center with the light 24 inches from the canopy. It's also amazingly affordable. I paid $300 for fixture, ballast, and bulb on Amazon, although the price has since gone up to $350. Still one hell of a light. For a vertical farm arrangement I'd highly recommend the Scynce Raging Kush. It's not available yet commercially (I have a prototype test unit here). It's super cool running, makes a solid evenly spread 4x4 footprint, is smartphone controlled for custom spectrum and light recipes and you can set up a system where you control all the fixtures in a room at the same time. Plants love it, and I can get the fixture to within about 6 inches of the canopy with no worries. Also pretty pricey. Another fixture that would be great for this application is the ForeverGreen panel, though it lacks the ability to customize the spectrum.
Probably my absolute favorite though is the autocobs from cobshop.net. I'm finding that in every application I've put them in they shine and the thing I love about them is the placement versatility. Being such a small form factor you can really custom place your light source based on the shape and density of the plants under it. They're bright as hell, have a great spectrum that the plants seem to love, and use less than an amp of electricity. They're built like a tank too. One caveat... I haven't seen a full flower cycle with any of them yet. I'm running both the 3K and the 3.5K in various applications, both as standalone lights and as supplemental lights for other fixtures. The combination that seems to be making the plants happiest is a 315 CMH with a 3100K bulb and four autocobs at 3500K spaced around the CMH over a 4 x 4 area.
The light I'm most excited about is the one I built myself using the PhotoBoost strips from Pacific Lighting Concepts (see my thread regarding the build in this forum). I have only had it over plants for a few days though so results at this time are unknown. If it flowers well, then this is a great solution and is probably the best bang for the buck I have outside the 630 CMH without all the heat and with the ability to have it very close to the plant canopy and still get even spread and excellent penetration.
So... no budget constraints, no height constraints, and the ability to pump in a lot of AC I'd say probably the CW1100 at this point. If budget is a consideration and you have a 4x4 or larger area that 630CMH is the real deal.
