First grow, recaps during dark cycles

As I wait for the lights to cycle on, I feel the urge to look at the pros and cons on my first grow. Those starting their first, hopefully this can help. Those experienced in raising healthy girls, hopefully Icanglean some ideas on where to make changes...

Set-up: Grow tent (2'x4'x5')
400w HPS and 400w MH w/ hood
4" exhaust fan and charcoal filter
4" fan and 24" tower fan

So, I'm already feeling limited in such a small grow space. Envisioning 4x10, split, would be more suited to my desired yield (800g/yr. ). That would require more light, probably a 600w HID. Also, 4" exhaust fan is barely adequate, once filter is added.

Plants: Bag seeds
Coco/peat/perlite mix
Advanced Nutrients PH Perfect +CalMag
(Micro, Grow, Bloom)

I started with bag seeds for several different reasons. I didn't want the expense/risk of a seed bank until I had a set up that I was comfortable with... Plus, most of what I buy is of good quality, the seeds I had were most likely hermied, and I had on-hand. Out of 22 seeds, 19 germinated. I started so many b/c the weren't feminized, but space limitations required thinning them before they sexed. And then there were 10. Pre-flowers indicated all 10 females, so I kept the best 5.

Topped to early!! Def should've waited, stunted the growth.
Not having grown soil-less before, the nutes confused me at first.

Ahhh, ballast starting up... til next time.

Hey kind sounds like a sweet set up, but someone will ask eventually, pictures? Nutes confused me at first too. AN feeding recommendations on the bottle are confusing at best. Plus tons of salt in it, requires flush every 3 feedings. I use emerald harvest now and their feeding schedule is a breeze to read and no flush needed like AN.

Very nice setup! Just curious, what's the temperature in there? Is it possible they've been over or under watered recently? I only ask because I see a few curling/drooping leaves on the parts of the plant closest to the light, which is often a sign or heat, light or water stress. Overall they look good! Can't wait to see how they develop!

Honestly, I'm not sure. Could be several things. First, light changed from MH to HPS. Second, due for flushing... which was done after pic was taken. Third, this was first day after 12-12 switch... Temp stays in high 70's low 80's, with RH ranging from 30-50 %, in relation to water schedule.

Also, finally got a ph kit. Tap water is around 7.1 here, before bites are added. Haven't tested with mutes yet, although nutes are SUPPOSED to be ph leveling...

Having to rearrange things, running out of room in tent. :) Buds forming nice, very resinous. Sticky fingers, and I ain't talking BBQ! Need more light, 400w isn't quite up to par. Thinking a few strategically place cfl's are in the near future.

Gorgeous plants! However, I just wanted to check to make sure you know you have a male plant in there that's growing pollen sacs instead of buds. Unless you're trying to make seeds you need to get him out of there ASAP!

I know. Thought of starting a 'Seed the Planet' movement, of my own at least. Just spread seed everywhere. I think it would interfere with outdoor grows of others tho...

Those look very close to the light how far away are they? do you happen to know by chance i have a 600watt hps and find that if i go lower than 15 inches the leave tips start to burn i have caught it a few times during the stretch but now thats over so its just a waiting game

Gorgeous plants though how far into flower are you.. I also started with a 4x4x7 and a 600watt ended up getting two setups going into a third once this harvest is done =D but more light= more yield just an fyi as long as you have the canopy to fill the space! so LST top and Trellis if you have to but fill that tent up with tops the best you can! Also you can check my first grow out here and i went for maxium canopy going for more next time! http://forum.growweedeasy.com/forum/growing-community/60362-grow-journal-first-grow-1
