First Grow...Does this look OK?

Insight

New member
This is my first grow in a 4x4x80" grow tent, 6" carbon filter, exhaust fan and 600w MH/HPS lights, 5 gallon smart pots with coco/perlite 70/30, northern lights (not auto).
Things appeared to be going well, all 3 seeds germinated in rapid rooters with pH'd, calmag H20, they popped their heads up after 3 days (Tuesday) at which time I put them into the 5 gallon smart pots and turned the lights on (600W MH)18/6 about 32" away. My temps vary between 72-82°F but I have low RH..between 19-28%. They seem to be growing well, I watered for the first time on Friday with nutes following Nebulas schedule and following directions for growing seedlings in a large pot.
My concerns are the lanky stems, one of them fell over and now I am supporting them all by building up the coco around their bases. They've already grown their second set of leaves but are not "fattening up", I moved the lights down to 27" but thought I noticed the newer leaves looked a little yellow and thought the lights were too low, so back up to 32".
So, do things look right, or is this a result of too low humidity?

hey dr, and welcome! 600w hids, you are still too far away. i put 1000w mh about 14" off the substrate for my seedlings. go order a lux meter, its cheap. makes distance irrelevant. you want about 55k lux on the seedlings. after a week give them about 65k lux. then you will be riding the line, as the saturation point for veg plants is around 70k lux. that will solve the stretching issue and help thicken the stems especially with a GENTLE breeze on them. get some fans in there!
the yellowing could more likely be ph related, and not light, but honestly the color in the pics looks fine! i notice mine yellow just a hair with temps over 82°f., and get richly dark at about 77-78°.
get your rh above 46%. it WILL speed things up a bit. ultrasonic vaporizers are cheap and very effective.
i am still on my very first grow, but i have enough hands on to help here! and of course you can find the same info in the GWE website.
looks to me like you have a great start, set up is clean n tight. i like that. get those lights down on ur plants or all they will do is keep stretching and falling over!
and props for planting in the big buckets. less transplants = less stress.
good luck on ur grow! and never hesitate to post pics and questions! the GWE family will see you thru start to finish!

Thanks for the reply. I have a lux meter so really appreciate those numbers. I have the pH just about 5.9, using GH trio per Nebula's pdf.
I think I'll go for the humidifier today.

yup. and keep in mind those numbers are for veg. they actually go up a little when you flip to bloom.
use the website. read everything that applies to every phase of YOUR grow. if this is ur first grow, you will be better prepared for whats coming. you dont want to be juggling with the basics while ur working and training ur plants, it really can be overwhelming the first time.
happy farmin!

Today is day 18 since being put into the 5 gallon pots. Things seem to be going well. I am starting to see the 5th node developing so I imagine am getting close to trimming and doing some LST.
Any suggestions or tips. So far, because of this forum, it has been a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Thanks all.
