Exhaust fan control

I no there is a item to buy so I can set my exhaust at different speeds can someone plz help me out with what that item is called???
 
I beleave that fans that go on and off only. Weren’t built to change speeds with a controller and burn up prematurely!
Yes thay reduce speed but the fans weren’t built or should I say the Berings weren’t built for different speeds. Just saying
 
I get tht thanks for the info to chew on. So the reason I think I will need the controller is because I plan to buy a real grow tent and it will be smaller than my current grow and defnetly much more air tight. So I guess I will just set it up and c how it works got any ideas for me if my fan blows out all humidity?
 
Yeah, like Potted said, those variable switches don't work right on inline fans, at least the variable switches don't cost much to find out, they don't work with mine anyway.
 
Mine works great at half speed, over a year non-stop not one problem. ☮️

I'm just pulling enough air to keep my bulb cool so its around 1/4 speed, I also put them on the 16 inch fans in the bloom room at full speed they would wind burn the girls
 
Fan speed control is tricky. Typically the speed controls built into units is done by having multiple poles or taps. Trying to do this externally proves difficult and dangerous.
Although you can get away with it, if you use the wrong type of speed controller, you could be seriously limiting the life of your fan or risking external damage. If its cheap or has a variable knob, chances are its the bad kind.

Resistive or switching controllers such as Rheostats, Potentiometers, triac etc. Should be avoided. They add additional stress through heat or harmonic distortion and can seriously degrade the life of the unit or add fire risk.

If you insist on having a fan speed controller, ensure its a step capacitor type or variac. There are variable frequency which is the best of all. But that would cost a lot more just for the added functionality of full speed control.

Yeah ,your right Dandangerous, those speed controllers don't work with all fans like they are advertised, they can even start fires in some cases.
 
Well the last thing I need is a fuckn fire. What if I set the fan on a timer to go on and off would this add fire risk or kill my fan by turning on and off constantly ?
 
I set my timer for the exhaust fan for the Autos and veg on and off every fifteen minutes to see if I can warm them up a few degrees
